Ecumenical Baccalaureate Worship set for GHS seniors
For the first time in almost two decades, an Ecumenical Baccalaureate Worship Service is planned for Greencastle High School seniors. HOSTED BY the Greencastle Ministerial Association with the support of most of the Christian congregations in the community, the service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5 at the First Baptist Church on Judson Drive. While not a required activity for seniors, the school has kept this evening free of other activities so that graduates and their families may attend.
Congregations take major step in Holy Sepulcher restorations
JERUSALEM (AP) The massive dome of the church over the traditional site of Jesus’ tomb, damaged by an earthquake and blackened by soot, will soon come ablaze with die colors of the sun. The three rival denominations controlling the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Christianity’s most venerated site, have at last agreed on a ceiling design: silver rays on a gold field. IT IS THE FINAL step in a restoration project that has gone on for more than three decades, dragged out by wrangling among the clergy. The 115-foot-tall dome will remain hidden by scaffolding for this year’s Easter rites, starting Friday. But soon after, clergy hope, painting will begin. The basilica in the heart of Jerusalem’s walled Old City was built by Crusaders 900 years ago. It marks the site where tradition says Jesus was buried. Pilgrims on Good Friday carry crosses to the church to commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion.
May 26-31 revival set at Greencastle Church of Nazarene
Dr. B. G. Wiggs, district superintendent of the Southwest Indiana District Church of the Nazarene since 1976, will be the evangelist as the Greencastle Church of the Nazarene conducts revival services May 26-31. Services will be held nightly at 7 o’clock, while Sunday services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Jerry and Beth Smith will serve as song evangelists for the revival. They are song evangelists of the Indianapolis District Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Leßoy Davis and the local congregation invite everyone to attend any or all of the special revival services. The church is located a half-mile north of Indianapolis Road on Round Bam Road.
Evangelism blitz to begin on June 6 at Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Southern Baptist Convention hopes a door-to-door campaign during its June convention will convert 5,000 Indiana residents to Christianity. Hundreds of Baptists attended a recent workshop in Indianapolis to loam how to effectively witness their faith. The evangelism blitz, called “Crossover Indianapolis,” is scheduled to begin June 6, three days before the denomination’s convention begins. “We need revival in this nation
Spirit-filled service set each Saturday at Kelly residence Everyone is invited to attend a “spirit-filled service” with prayer for the sick and signs to follow each Saturday at the Bonnie Kelly residence. Services begin at 7 p.m. The home is located off South Cataract Road.

The service will be led by.clergy representing many of the churches in Greencastle with special music provided by a volunteer choir under the direction of Geoff Price. Featured speaker will be Ruth Rehlander, a Greencastle elementary teacher and frequent speaker/leader for groups in her church. The theme for the service will be “Discerning the Difference

Sunday services mark his resurrection. A FIRE IN 1808 AND an earthquake in 1927 seriously damaged the dark, cluttered shrine. It wasn’t until 1961 that the three communities in charge the Armenian Orthodox, the Roman Catholic and the Greek Orthodox agreed to start the restorations. Advertisements for the campaign in The Indiana Baptist newspaper claim, “You won’t find many folks inside the doors of churches in Indiana on a Sunday morning. More than 80 percent of the 5 million people of Indiana are unchurched.” Church officials said they expect thousands of clergy and lay people to participate in the evangelism blitz.
