6.0 Putnam jobless rate is worst figure of 1990 s
Putnam County’s unemployment figure has hit the 6.0 mark for the first time in the 1990 s with the release of January 1992 jobless rates by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The latest monthly figure puts the Putnam jobless rate at 6.0 with 12,240 persons employed out of a local labor force of 13,020. THE NEW 6.0 RATE drops Putnam County from the state’s top 10 best unemployment rates, tumbling it to 24th place among the state’s 92 counties. Statewide, the Indiana unemployment rate for January was reported at 6.5 percent. Hamilton County, at 2.5, had the state’s best unemployment rate, while Orange County, at a staggering 15.0 jobless figure, recorded Indiana’s worst January total. Putnam County was one of two west-central Indiana counties to experience an increase in unemployment. The other was Clay County, which rose 0.3 percent to 8.2 for January. THE PUTNAM County jobless
