Fountain Central coach charged VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (AP) A misdemeanor charge of battery has been filed against Bryan Hughes, boys basketball coach at Fountain Central High School, for allegedly fondling a 17-year-old female student, the county prosecutor said today. Hughes was suspended Dec. 30 from his teaching and coaching duties for one week for conduct unbecoming a teacher. Superintendent Marion Chapman said Hughes’ job status has not changed since he returned Jan. 6. The charge was filed on Tuesday, prosecutor Richard Holmes said. “The allegation is that Bryan Hughes touched in a rude, insolent or angry manner, a 17-year-old student, in that he put his hand into her sweat shirt and on her breast,” Holmes said today. “It’s a misdemeanor battery” that carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and $5,000 fine. Hughes has not been arrested, Holmes said.
