Bass bitin’ down South

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Largemouth bass fishing was good at the Greene-Sullivan State Forest’s lakes last week, where one angler at Narrow Lake caught a 6.25-pound largemouth, the weekly fishing report said. Thursday’s report from the Department of Natural Resources said bluegill and redear fishing was good at the forest’s lakes using worms and crickets and catfish angling was fair. ELSEWHERE IN SOUTHERN Indiana, channel catfish were biting on worms and chicken livers on the bottom of Beanblossom and Bryant Creek lakes at the Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Bluegill were hitting on surface flies and crickets and bass were biting on rubber worms at Cherry and Prather lakes. At Starve Hollow Lake, bass fishing was good using crankbaits and plastic worms at points and in shallows, while bluegill and redear fishing was best using crickets and nightcrawlers in the bays and shallows. Catfish were biting on nightcrawlers in the bays. Crappie fishing was fair and bass fishing had improved. Largemouth bass were biting on various baits in 5 to 8 feet of water and northern pike fishing was poor. Crappie were hitting on minnows and worms in 5 to 10 feet of water. Bluegill, redear and white bass were hitting on various baits. AT HARDY LAKE, channel catfish angling was excellent using nightcrawlers and bloodbait, and largemouth bass fishing was excellent using artificial baits. Crappie fishing was good using minnows, and bluegill and rcdear fishing was fair. Bluegill were biting on beemoths in the shallows of Monroe Reservoir, where crappie fishing was excellent and bass fishing was fair. Hybrid striped bass were biting on crankbaits and top water baits. Overall fishing was good along the Ohio River At Sugar Ridge Fish and Wildlife Area’s strip pits, bluegill, rcdear and bass fishing was good using crickets and worms.

Anglers reported slow fishing at the Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area’s ponds. AT DELANEY PARK Lake in Washington County, fishermen were catching redear. Crappie fishing was good at Lake Salinda. CENTRAL INDIANA Crappie fishing was good using minnows near the flooded shoreline of Cagles Mill Lake at the Lieber State Recreation area, where walleye were hitting on minnows below the dam. Bass were biting on crankbaits in the bays. Catfish were biting on nightcrawlers in the Lower Cataract Falls area. At Brookeville Reservoir, crappie fishing was good using various jigs, jigs with bee larvae, jigs with twisters and minnows, and walleye, channel catfish and white bass were biting on various baits. Bass fishing was good using spinners and other artificial baits along the White River in Marion County, where catfish were hitting on shad guts and crappie where biting on minnows. AT WAVELAND LAKE in Montgomery County, crappie, bluegill and catfish angling was good. Crappie were hitting on minnows and jigs and catfish and bluegill fishing was good using a variety of baits at Eagle Creek Reservoir. NORTHERN INDIANA Overall fishing was good at Salamonie River State Forest’s Hominy Lake. At Huntington Reservoir, white crappie were hitting on minnows and jigs in shallow water, and channel catfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass and white bass were biting on various baits. Crappie fishing was good at Salamonie River, where catfish were hitting on nightcrawlers, shad guts and minnows and walleye were biting on curly tails. White bass fishing was good. AT THE SALAMONIE Reservoir, crappie fishing was good using minnows and tube jigs.
