No link to Eyler in new probe Indiana, Ohio cops comparing notes DEHANCE, Ohio (AP) Law enforcement officials will try to determine whether a body discovered last year in a Defiance County creek is connected with the unsolved deaths of 10 Indianapolisarea males. The males’ bodies were found in rural Ohio and Indiana the past 10 years. At least nine of the 10 had been seen in areas of Indianapolis frequented by homosexuals, and eight were confirmed homosexuals, Preble County sheriff’s investigator Larry Swihart said Wednesday. All of the victims were found in nude or seminude states, and seven were strangled. The cause of death for three of the victims hasn’t been determined, Swihart said. CapL Skip Hanenkrath of the Defiance County Sheriff’s Department said that on May 31, 1989, the body of a nude white male was found by a passer-by in a creek about five miles from the Ohio-In-diana border. An autopsy estimated the dead man was 25 to 40 years old, was about 5-foot-ll and weighed 190 pounds, Hanenkrath said. Meanwhile, Darke County sheriff’s deputies were meeting with Indiana law enforcement officials Wednesday as part of theninvestigation into the death of Thomas R. Clevenger Jr., 19, of Indianapolis. Clevenger’s nude body was discovered Sept. 12, but no cause of death has been determined. Swihart said it isn’t known whether Clevenger was linked with the Indianapolis gay community. Four strangulations of men whose bodies were found in Preble County during the past five years are being investigated by county sheriff’s deputies, as are the deaths of five males whose bodies were discovered in rural Indiana between 1980 and 1987. County Prosecutor Wilfrid Dues said that despite similarities in the deaths, his investigation has turned up no evidence of a serial killer. Investigators are downplaying the possibility of a multiagency task force like the one formed in 1983 after a series of similar slayings in Indiana and Illinois. The task force disbanded after the arrest of former Greencastle resident Larry W. Eyler, who was convicted in the slaying of a male prostitute and suspected in several other slayings. Investigators have cautioned that there is no indication of Eyler’s involvement in the current probe. “Please don’t make any connection betwen Larry Eyler and these current cases or previous cases that are similar to this one,” an Indianapolis police spokesman said Tuesday. “There is no connection there.” The recent deaths have been markedly different from the methods attributed to Eyler, who bound and stabbed a 16-year-old Chicago victim. That method was used in as many as 24 other reported deaths in which Eyler is considered a suspect. Preble, Darke and Defiance counties all border on Indiana. Investigators believe all of the identified victims were abducted in Indianapolis, but all of the bodies were dumped in rural counties.

I must be very conservative in the amount of money I spend for my mother’s J funeral. Do all mortuaries charge about the /■ same? /rt —Z- JL. naU'4*f* We cannot answer your question directly. We can, however, take this opportunity to tell you that at Hopkins-Rector tne cost of a funeral is the decision of the decedent’s family. Funeral expenses, in addition to the casket, are a combination of professional fees, equipment, facilities and transportation. These are variable and buyers may be as conservative as they choose. Regardless of the cost of a funeral the care and consideration from our funeral home is the same to all people.
