from Cheryl Salsman to augment the supply. And at 50 cents for a large coffee, Wednesday was “definitely” a sales record for that item, Wells said. BOTH BURGER KING and Gould’s needed extra deliveries to keep their doors open. “We did not run out of anything,” Wells said at Gould’s. “We got deliveries from every company we called.” And all of those deliveries were additional, unplanned stops. Burger King’s Emmons said she updates her stock three times a week, so she had plenty of everything on hand. But the bread man had to stop at the restaurant twice Wednesday, in stead of his normal one visit. And an extra truck was due in Thursday, binging more meat. STILL, THERE WERE plenty of supplies for Thursday morning’s breakfast crowd, Emmons said. Although, she said cups might quickly be in short supply. Employees at both places will

realize their employers’ gratitude. “I’ve already hung a letter in the employee’s room saying thanks,” Emmons said. And her workers were given extra breaks and free meals Wednesday. “All of my employees did an excellent job,” she said, “I’m so proud of them.” AND, OF COURSE, extra help was needed to feed all of those unexpected mouths. Emmons said owners Jim and Kathy Haas of Danville came as quickly as they could, and managers from other Burger Kings in Hendricks County were shipped in for support. While a normal day shift is 10 workers, the- personnel roll call ballooned to as many as 16 workers during the day Wednesday. Wells said Gould’s usual day crew took the brunt of the storm crowd at the grocery store. “Our normal crew are the ones who took care of it,” he said of his 12 employees. “WE’RE GOING TO have a

One Greencastle business damaged by Wednesday morning’s storm was White Cleaners on North Jackson Street, where Bill and June Sandy surveyed damage prior to the arrival of the glass company to board up the front of the building. Winds reported as high as 85-100-mph were responsible for the storm damage, officials said.(Banner-Graphic , photo by Gary Goodman).

amner for them after things settle down a bit,” Wells added. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart manager Pete Newhold said he was shorthanded because of the storm. But; while some departments were busy, others were virtually ignored by the , storm shoppers. “They were buying the necessities you need when you go without electricity,” Newhold said. * Popular items were lamp fuel, flashlights, matches and candles.* “They weren’t buying fringe. items,” he said. “And the snack bar went really well,” Newhold said. “Everyone came in to eat breakfast and lunch.” He said record sales were likely posted by the snack bar and the sporting goods department. “THEY WIPED US out,”. Newhold said of the storm buyers, meaning there are very few survival supplies in the store today. But then, business was not likely to be as brisk Thursday as the city continues its clean-up efforts.
