Does it have microphone hook-ups for the band or DJ? Do they have ample restrooms and parking? Do they have handicap facilities? Do they have restrictions on decorating? What will they provide tablecloths, clean-up crew, silver, china, etc. get a list! If your reception site does not have “in-house” catering, then you will need to secure the services of a caterer. Check with family and friends of recent brides and get references. Make a list of questions before you meet with the caterer. Ask for menu suggestions. Reception menus can range from cake and punch at the church to a formal, sit-down dinner. You might want hors d’oeuvres added to the cake and punch reception. You might opt for a simple buffet reception or a more elaborate buffet or the formal sitdown dinner. Always ask about their policy on “guaranteed numbers”. Most caterers have either a 5% or 10% above or below the count you give them. Ask to see pictures of weddings they have prepared.
