_ ■ ■ ■ ■ marcnn, iwu in Hints from Holoisez Are ceramic tiles smart move for kitchen counter top?
DgAR HELOISE: ;I’m planning to have a new kitchen counter top installed. I love ceramic tiles, but I’m afraid the grouting will get dirty too fast. Lan you give me any advice on the cgre of it, or should 1 forget about tiles and stick to the standard laminated type? —Jackie Hayes, Houston, Texas By all means have the tiles installed. You'll love them and they are easy to take care of. You can get them in a variety of sizes and colors and some beautiful prints to mix in here and there. The grout lines shouldn’t be too wide ('A to 'A inch is
Harmless heading up Scout effort Greencastle Mayor Michael Harmless was recently elected chairman of the Achpateuny District of the Wabash Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America and has now been approved as a member of the Executive Board of the Council. As a member of the Executive Board he will help administer the affairs of the nine-county council with headquarters in Terre Haute. The focus of his leadership will be on strengthening the Scouting program in his district. THE DISTRICT includes Putnam, Parke and Clay counties. As chairman, Harmless will head the efforts of nearly 350 adult volunteers in 30 Cub Scout Packs, Bby Scouts and Explorer Posts with close to 1,000 youth members. i Mayor Harmless was a Boy Scout in Greencastle at Gobin United Methodist Church Troop 43. He is excited about “the opportunity to give back to Scouting what it gave to me.” The district, named Ach-pa-teuny (meaning “east wind” in the language of the Lcnni-Lenape Indians), is active in the Wabash Valley and is gearing up for another year of adventure and discovery. Scouting is a volunteer movement volunteers are the key to a successful experience for boys in the program. ; From Clay City to Montezuma to Roachdale, Scouting is happening with excitement and vigor. Longtime Scoutmaster and Achpateuny District Commissioner D. Lester Niles, sums it up this way: “Scouting is being rediscovered as the source for high adventure. It’s a tqp-notch outdoor challenge experience for the ’9os.” ; SUMMER CAMP at Krietenstein will once again spread that reputation beginning in June. Not only is it a place to learn and experience the outdoors and scoutcraft skills, but also a place to hone character, personal fitness, and citizenship, each of which are the expressed purposes of the Boy Scouts of America. ; Support, again is a key word and support requires a plan of action. Two of the primary areas in this plan are membership growth and financial goals. Membership growth will be accomplished in terms of increasing the number of youth members and number of Packs, Troops and Posts. Financial goals will be met through a Sustaining Membership Enrollment Campaign (which begins in February), an annual popcorn sale, United Way Funds and special project sales. Harmless encourages those who are interested in Scouting to contact him at Greencastle City Hall (6533100), Michael Conner at the B.S.A. Service Center (812-232-9496) or any local Scouting leader.

have a very thin grout line. When the grout is thoroughly dry, it’s recommended that you apply a sealer to the grout to prevent stains from penetrating through. If you happen to get any stains, bleach will remove most of them. You’ll have to seal it from time to time because it doesn’t last for years. My family loves hamburger, so I use that up pretty quickly, but I’m not sure how long it can stay in a refrigerator or freezer. Would you tell me what the standard refrigerator and freezer time is for meats? Mae Kline, Miami, Fla.
