hitting those shots tonight we would have been in for a long night,” Bretsch said for the 14 points Edgewood got off the bench. With 3:20 left in the second period, Pate gave Edgewood a 2922 lead. Edgewood did not score again in the half. Mutterspaugh scored on an offensive rebound and netted another bucket from inside the free throw lane to start an 8-0 run that put South ahead 30-29 at halftime. Sadler hit two free throws and a field goal to close out the run and the first half scoring. AFTER BATTLING FOR two and three-point leads through most of the third quarter, Cory Robinson put South up 44-38 with a field goal and free throw. Only half of that six-point margin remained when the final quarter opened. Robinson netted an inside bucket 10 seconds into the fourth quarter that put the Eagles ahead by five points. Pate and Buher countered with three-pointers and the Eagles were in the hole 50-48 with 5:57 left. Mutterspaugh tied the score 5050, then it became a free throw contest, which South won by hitting 16-of-18. BLAYDES PUT THE Eagles ahead for good. First he tied the score 52-52 with two free throws, then converted a Edgewood pass, that bounced off of Slaton’s head, into a layup. South led by 11 points with 19 seconds to go when coach Puckett pulled the seniors Blaydes and Sadler off the floor to a standing ovation. The two seniors accounted for 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Pacers post 102-91 loss to Mavericks

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Dallas’ Rolando Blackman, warned by his coach to make Indiana’s Reggie Miller “earn every basket,” carried out the mission. Noting that Miller shot just 6-of--15 Friday night as the Mavericks beat the Pacers 102-91, Dallas coach Richie Adubato praised the defensive work of Blackman and that by Sam Perkins against Chuck Person. PERKINS ALSO scored 24 points, matching his season high. He had 13 points in the third

period. “Defense was maybe the best we’ve played so far,” Adubato said. “Number 1,1 thought it was a great duel between Miller and Blackman. They had to fight through picks and screens all night.” Blackman, held to six points despite averaging a team-high 20.5, said, “Tonight my main focus was on defense. I had to contain Miller, but our game plan was to get the ball to our big men. I knew I wasn’t going to see the ball much, but I made the best of it with my effort

The Pacers trailed 61-54 at halftime and shot just 28 percent in the third quarter, a 5-for-18 effort. They went more than 6 minutes without a field goal.
