The successful bidders were Ron Oskay Co. Inc., Indianapolis, and Girton Implement, Brazil, who will supply a Carpenter body and International chassis, respectively. All buses use diesel fuel. The board agreed to pick up the option of each bus having a luggage compartment (for athletic, band and field trips) at the cost of $525 each. Additionally, plywood flooring will be added to each bus. The plywood flooring will be placed underneath the original rubber flooring to help eliminate noise,

door space is the necessity of a fen-ced-in yard for six or more children. Jeffers said no requirements are mandated on the height or type of fence a home would need. Split-rail fences, however, would not be considered adequate, she said, since a child can easily slip through the barrier. Greencastle zoning laws could also require plant screenings to protect nearby neighbors from noise. In an initial inspection of the child care home, Jeffers said she makes sure cleaning supplies are out of a child’s reach or are stored in cabinets with child guard locks. SHE SAID SHE usually spends 90 minutes to two hours with the applying provider, discussing the number of children and their ages, the times the children are at the home and the activities and toys provided. She also checks a providers views on discipline, child rearing, sanitary measures, meals

I’ve worked at the Putnam County Welfare- Department since January 1972 when I started as an AFDC caseworker. In 1982 I became director. correct the slick surface of the rubber flooring and reduce the cold during winter months. That option cost approximately $230 per bus. Therefore, the total cost of each bus, with options, is approximately $31,400. IN FINAL ACTION, the board named Lynette Michael as the home school elementary liaison to work in conjunction with the elementary counselor. The position begins Dec. 11 and will only last “a couple of months,” Rohr said. Funds for this position will be paid via the at-risk grant received by the school corporation. Additional reports concerning the board’s discussion of the Bainbridge Elementary School and proposed middle school will appear in the Thursday and Friday editions of the Banner-Graphic.
and family background. Jeffers said she likes providers to keep records on each child, including a notarized statement from the parent saying the child may be taken to the hospital in case of an emergency. For homes providing care for more than six children, an inspection with the state fire marshall will be scheduled. Jeffers said the fire marshall will look at smoke alarms, check fire extinguishers, make sure all unused electrical outlets are covered by safety plugs and check around the home’s furnace. BATHROOMS WILL also be inspected to make sure doors do not have locks that cannot be opened from the outside. Fire alarms should be located near the area where children will nap, Jeffers said, as well as near the kitchen area. She said she annually reinspects each home to make sure state requirements are being met
caseworker. A COPY OF ALL of the complaints that we believe are true goes in front of the Child Protection Team for review. In some instances, the team may have suggestions to make about the case in order to further the welfare of the child. The Child Protection Team is also the community’s opportunity for input into the child welfare system. It may also help to educate the community about child abuse and neglect issues and help us to work out flaws in our local system. The Child Protection Team is only one part of the child welfare system.
