It’s also xome to symbolize the rivalry that is still heavily tilted un Purdue’s favor. “The key thing with us is to establish better sound- £ •ness,” said Indiana coach Bill Mallory, whose Hoosiers '■ ‘are 5-6 but have beaten Purdue 35-14 and 52-7 the past two years. He has a school-record 1,696 yards this v season and leads the nation in rushing at 169.6 yards • - per game and scoring at 15.4 points a game. “The thing he does best is he goes out and competes every game,” said Akers. “He’s always comes back the next play. INDIANA QUARTERBACK Dave Schnell, also a '. senior, has passed for 1,509 yards and is second in IU career passing with 5,371 yards. With Thompson’s 5,202 career rushing yards, it’s the first time in Big Ten history a team has had both a 5,000-yard rusher and 5,000-yard passer. , Purdue, struggling early this season on offense, switched to Hunter at quarterback. He has thrown for •' -1,184 yards and 10 touchdowns but last week was sacked nine times for losses of 68 yards in a 24-0 loss to lowa. The Boilermakers’ top rusher is Jerome . Sparkman with 433 yards, but Purdue produced a net of rr.inus-73 yards rushing last week against the Hawkeyes and has rushed for only three touchdowns all season. Harris is major ? Heisman factor J?
