1 in 10 homes said to be underinsured

HOUSTON (AP) A Georgia widow sat crying on a tree stump in her backyard, surveying what was left of her charred heme. Even though she had homeowner’s insurance, seven contractors refused to rebuild her house. The reason: It wasn’t insured for enough money to rebuild it at current construction prices. INADEQUATE insurance coverage is a serious problem for thousands of American homeowners, according to Nelson Bean. Bean’s catastrophe reconstruction company, the Evans American Corp. of Houston, volunteered to rebuild the widow’s house for less than cost. Bean says the problem exists because most people do not understand co-insurance. He says policy owners should read the fine print before catastrophes occur. “With proper insurance representing iust 3 percent of

monthly housing expenses for home buyers, there is no reason why every homeowner should not be adequately protected,” says Bean, who has supervised in-surance-funded reconstruction of more than 5,000 homes. ALTHOUGH THE Insurance Information Institute estimates that 95 percent of homeowners carry household insurance, Bean conservatively estimates that about 10 percent of all homes are underinsured. His estimate is based on nearly a decade of experience in meeting homeowners sorry to learn that their insurance alone cannot replace their homes. Bean says underinsured homeowners face some very unpleasant choices. They must pay the difference between insurance and replacement or settle for less of a home.

Abby Teen’s idea of company not parents’ DEAR ABBY: 1 am 18 years old and consider myself a man. I work full time, live with mv parents and pay room and hoard. Mv question: Shouldn't I he allowed to have my girlfriend sleep over in my room? She’s HI and my one and only girlfriend.

1 believe that since I am paying for this room and am of age, 1 should he able to have overnight company here if I want to. My parents disagree. They think 1 should live by the house rules they set before I turned IH. 1 always respected their rules and never complained. 1 love my parents and enjoy living with them, hut think they should not put any restrictions on what 1 can do in my room as long as 1 am paying rent. What do you think? Must I move out to avoid a hassle? This is the only thing we ever argue about. A MAN WITH LITTLE BOY RULES DEAR MAN: Obviously your parents are not comfortable with the idea of their son sleeping with his girlfriend under their roof, and 1 can certainly understand their feelings. But since you can’t, I suggest you rent a room or apartment elsewhere for complete independence and privacy. The next move is yours. * * * DEAR ABBY: You should have told that man signed "Hurting in Waukegan" what you told me when I had the problem of a cheating spouse. I have carried it in my wallet for years and could probably recite it from memory. No truer words were ever written. It helped me a lot. Maybe it will help “Hurting" if you want to pass it along. Please print it for others. MINNIE DEAR MINNIE: That item was clipped by many, and here it is: DEAR ABBY: Why will a married man pick up a tramp and treat her like a lady, then turn around and treat his wife (who is a lady) like a tram p? MINNIE DEAR MINNIE: A man picks up a tramp because he wants a female companion who is no better than he is. In her company he doesn’t feel inferior. He rewards her by treating her like a lady. He treats his wife (who is a lady) like a tramp because he feels that by degrading her he will bring her down to his level. This makes him feel guilty, so to get even with his wife for making him feel guilty, he keeps right on punishing her. * * * DEAR ABBY: The letter from "Irked." who applied for a sales job in a large retail store, brought hack memories. He was told if lie wanted the job he’d have to shave off his beard. Back in 1929. I applied for a job with the Standard Oil Co. The job paid SKO a month for working a (»0liour week. I was told 1 wouldn’t be hired unless I shaved off the moustache I'd been wearing for 10 years. I didn’t think twice. 1 agreed to shave off my moustache and felt luckv to get the job. DON McI.ELLAN. EI.INTRIDOE. CALIF. DEAR DON: You made it by a whisker. Back in 1929 you were lucky you had a razor to shave it off with. CONFIDENTIAL TO FLORENCE IN ARLINGTON, VA.: I, too, am sick of the “babble of Tower”: Let’s get on with more important things.

T here was a darkness over the whole earth. It was the darkness of humanity's despair. It was the darkness ot God’s sorrow . A man had lived for others and loved them to the end A man had died for others. . and now was dead. And then the Sun broke through again' A voice rent the blackness as a sentinel torch It was a human voice, a soldier's voice, .the voice which had given the order to strike the nails that crucified the man.

'Truly." came the Roman’s cry. "T ruly, this Man was the Son of God." And others echoed the words. . across the land across the centuries. From our churches the cry still rings forth. And in the churches the darkness of humanity's despair is lifted, the memory of God’s sorrow gives place to divine joy. Let all the world rejoice on (faster morning for He is risen!
