the hospital’s programs and he believes hospital officials would be willing to discuss the matter at a time convenient to all. IN OTHER ACTION, the board: Acknowledged a letter from State Examiner James M. Gutting of the State Board of Accounts pertaining to holidays. Gutting wrote: “Employees of the Prosecuting Attorney, Title IV-D Office and Board of Health are ‘county employees’ subject to all local employee personnel ordinances. The Board of County Commissioners has the power to set holiday schedules in all counties. Indiana Code 1-1-9-1 does not affect local governmental units,” Gutting added. In addition, Gutting’s letter stated: “Concerning the court employees, we concur with (Putnam Circuit Court) Judge (William C.) Vaughn’s statement that court employees’ hours and days of work are controlled by their respective judges. These employees could be paid for the two days in question, if authorized by the judges.” (The two days Gutting refers to are Friday, Dec. 23 and Friday, Dec. 30, two days which were technically state holidays but were not part of the 1988 county holiday schedule as established by the commissioners. Earlier, the commissioners said any county employees paid from the general fund, who did not work those two Fridays, would be docked in pay. To remedy the situation in 1989, the commissioners adopted the state holiday schedule). AGREED TO purchase a new 1989 Ford Aerostar van from Eastside Motors, Greencastle. The van will be utilized for transportation of residents at the Green Acres County Home. Cost of the van was listed at $13,780.70. With a SSOO rebate, the final cost will be $13,280.70. The delivery date to Green Acres Supt. Jerry Monnett is Jan. 12. (Since the commissioners did not adjourn last Friday’s special meeting, the vote regarding the van was completed Tuesday night. The board adjourned the Friday meeting, before officially starting Tuesday night’s session). Accepted estimates from Barry Grimes regarding the renovation of the Auditor’s Office and work on the second-floor courthouse exit doors on the north and south sides. The Auditor’s Office remodeling is to cost $17,770, while work on the doors is estimated to total $854. Grimes

Another thing the beginning father will learn is that a baby will weep and wail equally well—wet or dry, and there’s no convenient or easy way to know for sure if there’s an emergency requiring quick action or an unhappiness from causes unknown to the adult world which prompts a festival of tears.

todial workers might have been somewhat misleading. “I do know they have to come up here on Saturdays sometimes,” she told the commissioners. “They work a lot of hours people aren’t aware of.” Still, as a protection, Carson suggested it might be best to develop a job description for such courthouse personnel. To replace Mrs. Patterson as elevator operator, Walton asked Auditor Cockrell to contact William Maddox, who has previously worked in that post Carson also suggested a replacement be sought to fill the second position.
