Heloise Moving? Involve the kids
DEAR HELOISE: I have a tip for families who are planning to move. Usually it is so hectic finding a house and a new neighborhood. Don’t forget your children’s feelings at this time. They probably are nervous about the move. Even if it’s just a few miles away, they’ll miss their friends on their street. Involve them in the move. If you’re planning a short-distance move, let your children examine the new house and neighborhood before the move. If you’re moving a considerable distance away, let them help. Ask them to go to the library and look up facts on your new location and have them plot the easiest route on the map. They’ll appreciate the fact that they’re involved. Also, when you move into the new home let them help with decorating their rooms. Children adjust pretty fast, so try and help them as much as possible. If they’re feeling down, don’t get angry with them. It’s only normal. It’s funny when we moved the children made friends quickly and I got to meet the mothers. So they helped me find new friends too. Mrs. J. Summers, Phoenix, Ariz. Aren’t kids great! They always seem to bounce back and make friends so quickly. You certainly are a wonderful and understanding mother. Some people are so wrapped up with planning; it’s nice to hear of parents involving their children. Heloise LAUNDRY BASKETS Dear Heloise: I have four children, and getting laundry done and sorting clothes is a chore. I had my husband put up a nice wide shelf above the washer and dryer. On it I put four plastic baskets (all different colors, one for each child). When I take the clothes out of the dryer, I sort each person’s items into the appropriate basket. The children take their baskets to

their rooms, fold and put their clothing away and return the baskets to the shelf. It really helps on laundry day. Millie Turner, Elizabeth, NJ. My pamphlet, Heloise’s Rules of Laundry, could make your laundry day even easier. For a copy, send $1 and a stamped, self-addressed, legal-sized envelope to Heloise/ Laundry, P.O. Box 19765, Irvine, Calif. 92713. Heloise TABLECLOTH Dear Heloise: I searched everywhere for a lace tablecloth that would fit my long, narrow table. I found a few but they were much too expensive. As I was walking around the store, I spotted beautiful lace panel curtains on sale. I measured one panel, and the width was perfect but it was too long. All I had to do was hem it on both ends. You wouldn’t believe how good it looks, and I’m embarrassed to tell you the price, but I will: $7! Can you imagine a large lace tablecloth for ihat price? Lori Beamer, Las Vegas, Nev. Isn’t that great! That’s what I tell my readers you don’t have to pay a fortune for something. With a little imagination you can really pick up bargains. Heloise
