Calendar of events Saturday Union Chapel Church will hold its annual smorgasbord Saturday, OcL 15, with serving beginning at 5 p.m. The menu will feature homemade noodles, salads and pies. Entertainment will be by the Forum Quartet from Hillsdale at 6:15. A free will offering will be taken. The church is located a mile west of Morton on U.S. 36. Persons are invited to meet the candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and the Indiana Senate. All three referenda on the November ballot also will be reviewed. Questions will be accepted from the audience. The debate will air on WGRE (91.5 FM). The forum is open to the public. Men said vanishing UMC breed NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A parish expert says the “feminization” of local United Methodist churches has contributed to a loss of members. In an article, “The Vanishing Men in the United Methodist Church” for a denominational publication, Circuit Rider, the Rev. Lyle Schaller says an imbalance began developing about 1960, five years before the prolonged decline set in. Schaller, a United Methodist who is parish consultant for the Yokefeller Institute in Richmond, Ind., says it is critical “to create places in the church where men feel wanted and feel needed.”

New preacher for Church of Christ
Rick Christian, a gospel preacher for almost 10 years, has recently moved to Greencastle to work with the Church of Christ meeting on State Road 240 East. Christian, his wife Beth and three daughters, ages 8, 6 and 4V£ months, moved here from Middleboume, W.Va., where he had preached for nearly 2Vi years for the Elks Fork Church of Christ. PRIOR TO THAT, he had worked with the church at Shepherdsville, Ky. Christian said he is impressed by the warm welcome and friendliness, not only of the congregation, but of those in the community whom he has had a chance to meet. He is looking forward to working in Greencastle and invites everyone to visit the services of the church. Vanderbilt University, is chairman of the DPU Chemistry Department, where he has taught many years. For the past 27 years, he has been active in Gobin Church, along with wife Nancy. Presently, he is a member of the Methodist Church South Indiana Conference Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns and a member of the Terre Haute District Council on Ministries.
