Fire
Officials from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were due at the scene Saturday. Fire officials stressed that the $50,000 estimate was a preliminary total. “He’s got computers in there and a laser printer,” Elmore said, “so it’s hard to say. Fortunately, he’s got a back-up (computer and files) at home, so he’s not out of business.”

then Greencastle has to be looking at losing some big bucks. The GCSC has lost 120 students since Dec. 1, 1986, and almost all of them are attributable to the IBM pullout. The schools losing the most were Greencastle High School, which lost 73 students, and Northeast Elementary School, which lost 44 kids. Put into percentages, Northeast lost 13.3 percent of its students body, while GHS lost 12.83 percent of its student body. GREENCASTLE MIDDLE School lost only 20 students between the time of the two counts, which is only 4.85 percent of its total student body. Jones Elementary and Ridpath Elementary both registered enrollment gains, with Jones adding 11 new students, and Ridpath added six. Acting Supt. Janett Boling said the GCSC received $1,040 per student in

state assistance during the 1986-87 school year. That figure varies annually, but if it were to remain constant this year, the GSCS would lose $124,800 in state funds as a result of the enrollment decline. Like McKinney, Boling will not know how much funding the school corporation has lost until the entire budget process is completed. THE FIGURES, MADE available Friday, are preliminary counts for the state’s ADM Day, which measurers a school’s Average Daily Membership. The ADM is a count of the number of students enrolled on a particular day. This year’s ADM Day was Friday. Absent children are included in the ADM count. Figures were unavailable for the South Putnam and North Putnam school corporation. All four school corporations in the county should be finalizing ADM reports sometime next week.
