Apple Bake-Off competition Thursday

The Apple Bake-Off, sponsored by Schwab’s IGA, Cloverdale, is open to all Putnam County residents and will be held Thursday, July 30 at Harris Hall during the Putnam County Fair. Entries will be accepted between 8 a.m. and noon July 30 at Harris Hall. The winners will be announced and prize money awarded during an auction beginning at 6 p.m. that night. Open judging will begin at 12:30 p. m. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE accompanied by the recipe, including those for crust and frostings, which

must be printed on BV2 by 11-inch paper. All recipes will become the property of IGA. Persons are limited to one entry, and that entry must contain fresh or canned apple in the baked portion. Classes for entry are: 6 cookies, 1 cake, 1 pie, and bread (one loaf, ring, braid or 6 rolls-yeast or quick bread. Cream pies or any product that needs refrigeration will not be accepted. All entries must be entered on a disposable container. PRIZE MONEY WILL be: SSO, fir-

st place; S3O, second place, and S2O, third place. From the four first-place winners, a SIOO grand prize will be awarded. Winners, however, will not gain any points toward the top exhibitor award in Harris Hall. All entries will become the property of the Apple Bake-off and will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Keepsakesfocus of Ladies Day action Wednesday

Wednesday, July 29 is Ladies’ Day at the Putnam County Fair and all ladies in Putnam County are invited to attend. The theme for the event is “Putnam County Keepsakes.” COFFEE HOUR opens the day at 9:30, followed by a welcome by Norman Sutherlin, Fair Board president, and recognition of VlP’s. The annual children’s style show will be at 10:15 a.m. with children modeling garments created for them. Awards for exhibits and recognition to outstanding exhibitors will be announced by Edith Fry, superintendent of Harris Hall. Also, on the morning program 4-H’ers Kara Thomas and Jenney

Jessup will give a demonstration entitled “Apple Delight.” AFTER LUNCH AT the fair, the County Choral Club will sing, directed by Vera Kierstead. The special feature of the afternoon will be a program on “Putnam County Collectibles” by Mrs. Marcia Franklin, a wellknown antique collector of Greencastle. Following her talk, ladies are invited to show and tell about their own Putnam County keepsakes. Planning Ladies’ Day is a committee of Extension Homemakers. Christine Collins and Happier Homes Club are chairmen. They are assisted by West Floyd Club and Afternoon Charmers.
