TV rights. It’s going to be difficult to make these a good investment.” Sports fortunes can quickly change, said Harry Sinden, general manager of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins. “I know the vagaries of sport,” Sinden said. “No injuries to key players, it’s the best team in sport. Injuries to key players, you’re back with the pack.” But Charles Weiss, a managing director of Smith Barney, said the shares are worth a serious investor’s attention. He pointed to the team’s ability to fill Boston Garden, its lucrative TV contracts and its record it has won the National Basketball Association championship 16 times, including last year. Celtics stock will be traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CEL once it gets approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission, expected any day. But the investors didn’t wait, buying directly from Smith Barney. According to the prospectus, the Celtics had profits of $5.3 million last season on revenues of $18.5 million.
