CLAIRE YARLETT Don Johnson's girl

By JOEY SASSO "Falcon Crest" heartthrob Lorenzo Lamas is getting over his bitter divorce and child custody battle in the arms of beautiful Los Angeles disc jockey Rachel Donahue. "Rachel is so hot she sets off alarms," Lorenzo says. "Rachel is great. She likes fast cars and rock 'n' roll as much as I do. Basically she is everything I could ever want in a girl." During their messy divorce proceedings, Lorenzo charged that his wife, Michele, abused drugs and dangerously neglected their 16-month-old son, A.J. But now, a friend says, Lorenzo's life is less troubled. "That's a real change from what he is used to," says the friend. "Most of the women in his life, including Michele and his stepmother, Esther Williams, have been horified by his fast driving and racing ambitions. "He's been miserable about his marital troubles. He crawled into a shell trying to avoid public events and people who would ask him uncomfortable questions. But Rachel has convinced him to put that all Behind him, and get on with his life. Most importantly, she doesn't want to be possessive or cramp his style." "Colbys" newlyweds John James and Emma Samms heat up the small screen in the most sizzling love scene ever aired on network television. Producers and network brass at ABC agonized for weeks before deciding to air the daring footage, but they finally concluded that the scene was necessary for the development of the intricate plot for "The Colbys" climb up the ratings ladder. Censors carefully monitored the shooting and editing, and the final product met the strictest requirements of taste and morality. They used every trick of make-up and camera technique to project passion without lewdness. Emma was carefully attired in a body stocking, and the scene was shot over and over again until it was perfect. In fact, the entire set was cleared during filming to spare the actors embarrassment and maintain an atmosphere of decorum. And while John and Emma's lovemaking bums a hole in the screen, the actors admit the scene frequently reduced them to fits of laughter. "John tilted my head to kiss me and the water went in my ear and I started laughing." John added: "It was the dreaded shower scene. "Emma started laughing, and I thought, 'This isn't working right. She's not supposed to be laughing. This is supposed to be romantic.'"

• ** EYE ON TV: Olivia Da Havilland, a loyal daughter of the Confederacy in "Gone With The Wind," is switching sides after 48 years to star as a Yankee nurse in the sequel to TV's "North And South." But the 69-year-old star admits that she nearly turned down her new Civil War role when she learned she was to play the administrator of a Union hospital. "I told them: 'I wouldn't even think about playing the part of a Yankee,"' she says. "That's out. The entire South would rise against me. Then my agent told me the character is interested only in saving lives," adds Olivia, who won her first Oscar nomination in 1939 as long-suffering Southerner Melanie Wilkes in "Gone With The Wind." "He said there are confederate wounded in this hospital, and she wants to save them. I said: 'ln that case, I'll take the part."' The 12-hour "North And South, Book II," based on the John Jakes novel "Love And War," will run for six nights on ABC. *** Melissa Brennan, who is Rose Horton on "Days of Our Lives," took one look at boyfriend Tommy Fridley - and decided he was a jerk. But in the interests of fair play she accepted his offer of a date - and the two have been together ever since. "There were a few problems at first," 18*-year-old Melissa admitted. "My mom's a stage mom and she likes the glitter and glamor - but she appreciates Tom, because she knows he's a wonderful person." And, according to the young celebrity, so's his uncle, John. That's John Travolta - Tommy is Ellen Travolta's son. **• TV INSIDER: Trouble continues to plague the set of "Miami Vice." While writers and studio bosses feud over ways to cut the cost of the $2-million-per-episode series, a battle royal has broken out between stars Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. A source close to Johnson reveals that the two actors have become so jealous of each other that they rarely speak, except to exchange lines on the show. Producers, at wits' end, are threatening wholesale cast changes if the two tarnished heroes don't clean up their act. Meanwhile, Don may have a new partner in mind. He and his new girlfriend, "Colbys" cutie Claire Yariett, are planning to film a romantic adventure movie for TV this summer. And Don has lined up "Dynasty" creator Esther Shapiro to write the script.
