People in the news Don Johnson heads 'BS hunk parade LOS ANGELES (AP) and Bruce Willis feel like they’re being watched, they are. They and seven others are the “Most Watchable Men in the World” for 1985 in the 10th annual Man Watchers Inc. poll released today. “This year’s list is unusual in that politics and business are not represented,” said Man Watchers president Suzy Mallery. "We named President Reagan to last year’s list but, aside from the president, our members have not found many watchable men in public office. “Let that be a lessor to the politicians for 1988.” Here are the ten, with comments from Man Watcher members: -Actor-dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov: “He is wonderful to watch, as he combines the most beautiful elements of dance with the power and strength of an athlete.” —Los Angeles Rams football player Dickerson: “He’s got a smile which lights up a room, and his football shows how gutsy he really is.” —“Dynasty” star John Forsythe: “He gets better looking every year. It’s amazing how well he weathers all the tragedies which strike his TV family each week.” —Talk show host Merv Griffin: “The All-American boy-next-door, Merv is such a good listener that he makes everyone feel at home. He’s intelligent, sensitive, cute and funny.” —Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Kareem AbdulJabbar: “At 7-feet-2, he has to be one of the most watchable men ever. He’s cool, calm and collected.” —ABC news anchor Peter Jennings: “He is wonderful not only the way he reports the news, but how he gets involved in it, as well. He’s super-smart, and great to look at, too.” —“Miami Vice” star Johnson: “There’s a new look to today’s hunks, and he is the reason. His clothes, his manner and his attitude all add up to Florida’s No. 1 attraction.” —Actor Rob Lowe, star of “St. Elmo’s Fire”: “He keeps the girls’ hearts pounding every time he shows up on the big screen.” —Actor-model Jack Scalia of TV’s “Hollywood Beat”: “He’s tall, dark and handsome. There would be a lot more women in Hollywood if they knew he would be roaming the streets.” —“Moonlighting” co-star Willis “Where have they been hiding this hunk? He’s James Dean, Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant all rolled up into one, and he’s hot.” • NASHVILLE, Tenn. HOLLYWOOD (AP)--“Rocky IV” left “Out of Africa,” “Enemy Mine” and “The Color Purple” black and blue in their box-office debuts, tallying $8.4 million in its fourth weekend to be the top-grossing film for the period. Rocky Balboa’s Cold War confrontation with a laboratory-honed Soviet sluugger has totalled $68.7 million in its first month. Sydney Pollack’s long-awaited “Out of Africa” with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg’s “The Color Purple” finished fourth and eighth respectively, with $3.6 million and $1.7 million. “OUT OF AFRICA” IS based on the Isak Dinesen book of the same name, and “The Color Purple,” adapted from Alice Walker’s book of the same title, is Spielberg’s effort toward no-nonsense, no-special effects drama. The story of an abused southern black woman and her fight for selfrespect stars comic Whoodi Goldberg and Danny Glover. But it was hardly a fair fight for “Rocky,” which showed on 2,232 screens last weekend, while “The Color Purple” appeared in only 192 theaters. Twentieth Century Fox’s romantic cliffhanger, “The Jewel of the Nile,” finished second with $4.7 million. It is a sequel, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, to their “Romancing the Stone.” “Spies Like Us,” the Dan Aykroyd-Chevy Chase espionage comedy, finished third with $4.2 million. “SANTA CLrtUS: THE MOVIE” picked up $3.2 million and fifth place. Despite its appearance on 158 additional screens this weekend. The seasonal re-release of Disney’s “101 Dalmatians” barked up weekend box-office grosses of $2.4 million to finish seventh. “A Chorus Line” is apparently failing its audition, making only $1.5 million for Columbia in its second week. It finished tenth. • LOS ANGELES (AP) Actor Daniel Travanti of television’s “Hill Street Blues” helped serve meals to 3,000 indigents at the Union Rescue Mission in a section of Los Angeles where many scenes from the police drama are filmed. “I’m very familiar with this neighborhood,” Travanti said Wednesday. "I feel a kinship because I see these people all the time. I want to call attention to their plight. The public has to know the need exists.”
