People in the news Cartoon next for The Refrigerator? William “The Refrigerator” Perry has become larger than life.. .if indeed that is possible at 6-2, 308 pounds. The Chicago Bear rookie has not only become a pro football cult hero as the fattest running back in the sport’s history, but is also leaving his mark on the commercial scene as well. A WEEK AGO MONDAY, McDonald’s launched its commercial answer to “Where’s the beef?” by casting Perry in a 30-second TV spot. Perry orders four McDLT’s and a Diet Coke and then cleans up for Bear teammates Dave Duerson, Steve McMichael and Dan Hampton by removing the trash-table and all. But “The Refrigerator” is not done yet. CBS is considering perhaps the most ridiculous exploitation of all-giving Perry his own Saturday morning cartoon show. According to network sources, the cartoon series would be along the lines of “Mr. T” or “Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Rolling.” PERRY HAS A GOOD, CLEAN image, CBS says, noting that he is a positive influence on youngsters. The cartoon could also be a positive influence on Perry’s wallet. His off-field endeavors are expected to add $1 million to his bank account by year’s end. • PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) Entertainer Eddie Fisher has been deluged with offers of chicken soup and potato pancakes by fans concerned about his near-collapse over the weekend, a hospital spokesman said. Fisher, 57, was “in stable condition, resting comfortably,” said Ed Maas, executive director of the Pembroke Pines Hospital, where the singer was rushed Saturday night just before two scheduled performances. “He felt weak and started having some difficulty. He was transported to our emergency room and then admitted for further treatment and observation,” Maas said Monday night, adding that he couldn’t give details on Fisher’s condition except to say he was improving. A one-time husband of Elizabeth Taylor and father, with ex-wife Debbie Reynolds, of actress Carrie Fisher, Fisher has been a favorite in South Florida for decades. SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) Peggy Lee was called “indomitable” by a hospital spokesman and “a gracious lady” by a local disc jockey as she bade farewell to New Orleans, where she underwent double bypass surgery. The 65-year-old entertainer returned here Monday after checking out of Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. She had checked into the hospital Oct. 6, complaining of chest pains, and underwent double bypass surgery the next day. “Miss Lee’s spirits have remained indomitable throughout this lengthy and tedious hospital confinement,” said Dr. Tom Oelsner, her physician at Touro. Before leaving on a private jet, Miss Lee stopped at WWIW, a radio station that plays jazz apd easy listening music. “I just couldn’t leave without saying goodbye to you,” she told announcer Dan Valentine.

WILLIAM PERRY The new Fat Albert'?

WASHINGTON (AP) Nancy Reagan warbled “Deck the Halls” along with weatherman Willard Scott and television star Emmanuel Lewis to help get some 350 children into the Christmas spirit after opening the doors of a White House decorated in turn-of-the-century style. The children many attired in the caftans, kimonos or turbans of their native lands are the offspring of the Capitol City’s diplomatic corps and are treated each year to a party and tour of the White House in its new holiday finery. “We wish you all a very merry Christmas but would you all like to have something to eat and drink?” Mrs. Reagan asked Monday, getting a roar of approval from her young audience. Accompanied by Scott arrayed in Santa’s costume Snow White, Goofy and a few Cabbage Patch kids, the first lady escorted her diminutive guests to the East Room. They had been treated to a mime show by Avner the Eccentric and Lewis star of the “Webster” series and had crooned along with Christmas songs in the East Room. In the State Dining Room, the youngsters ogled a 3-foot-high gingerbread house, baked by assistant executive chef Hans Raffert. Lights beamed through the illuminated windows of the house to show a Red Room, Green Room and Blue Room, as well as a “Truman Balcony” all characteristics of the White House itself. Earlier in the day, Mrs. Reagan was joined by another Santa actor Larry Hagman of the “Dallas” TV series and her new dog, Rex, as she led a tour of the newly decorated state rooms. Hagman, who plays the villainous J.R. Ewing, told reporters, “It feels wonderful to play a good guy” after eight years as “the meanest man in the world.” • MOSCOW (AP) French mime Marcel Marceau left a Moscow hospital to fly to France today to recover from a perforated stomach ulcer, a spokeswoman for Air France said. Marceau, 62, had been performing in the Soviet Union when he became ill. He underwent emergency surgery at the Botkin Clinic on Saturday. The airline spokeswoman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a special flight was arranged for Marceau.
