Wedding Walters-Myers

Susan Marie Walters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Walters, Cloverdale, and James Stephen Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Myers, Reelsville, were united in marriage in a late afternoon ceremony Aug. 25 at the Manhattan Baptist Church.

Owen chapter DAR meets Sept. 29 in Spencer

The Major Abraham Owen DAR met Sept. 29 at the home of Mildred Key in Spencer. Fourteen members attended the meeting including: Patricia Rose, Mary McKamey, Cleo Truesdel, Mildred Key, Melba Haltom, Connie Davis, Edna Montgomery, Rose Lotz, Jeanetta McFarren, Mary Edith Marley, Edythe Bonness, Joyce Hipps, Mary Wampler and Arbelle Casida. Regent Jeanetta McFarren called the meeting to order. Mary Wampler gave the devotions on a James Farley article entitled ‘lngratitude.” Mrs. Wampler then led the group in the singing of the National Anthem. Melba Haltom led the recitation of the pledge to the American flag. Joyce Hipps led the group in reciting The American’s Creed in unison. Edna Montgomery read the President General’s message and Mildred Key gave the national defense report. IN THE ABSENCE OF recording

secretary Barbara Moore, who is ill, Mary McKamey was appointed temporary secretary. The minutes of the August meeting were recorded by Melba Haltom. These minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Connie Davis gave her report and reminded members that annual dues should be paid. The veterans canteen books donation was discussed and members agreed to send money to that fund. The state DAR conference was held at the Indianapolis Hilton Oct. 2-3. Joyce Hipps, Edna Montgomery and Jeanetta McFarren attended. THE SEPTEMBER PROGRAM, “The First Seven Presidents,’’ was presented by associate member Rose Lotz. Mrs. Lotz showed the book The Arts of Independence and slides about the seven presidents. It was reported that Mary Wampler and Mildred Key posted displays for Constitution Week Sept. 17-23.

The bride carried a bouquet of lavender and white silk roses and baby’s breath. Melissa Walters, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a lavender satin gown. The bridgegroom wore a white tuxedo and lavender boutonniere. Mike Girton, Terre Haute, was the best man. He wore a white tuxedo with lavender accessories. Brothers of the bride, Mike and Steve Walters, Cloverdale served as ushers. BETTY EVENS, CLOVERDALE registered guests and Kenny Hutcheson played the organ during the ceremony. A reception was held at the Walters’ Cloverdale home following the ceremony. A 1985 graduate of Cloverdale High School, the bride is currently employed at Highland Pines Nursing Home, Clearwater, Fla. A 1982 GRADUATE OF South Putnam High School, the bridegroom is a senior at Indiana State University and is employed at Honeywell Corp. Clearwater, through a cooperative educational program. The couple currently reside in Largo, Fla.
