Fabric color remover helps whiten eyelet material
DEAR HELOISE; I have a problem I hope you will he al)le to help me solve. I bought my daughter a little pillow with a white eyelet cover The problem is that the eyelet is not white any more. I've tried using bleach but it only yellowed the material. Do you know of any way to make it white again ? Brenda Stampes * * * Buy a package of fabric color remover (available where fabric dyes are sold in grocery stores, five and dimes, discount stores, etc.). Simply follow the directions carefully. Since most eyelet material nowadays is made of cotton/synthetic blends, bleach will sometimes cause the fabric to turn yellow. In the future, should the fabric need whitening, use a non-chlorine bleach or simply add a detergent booster to the wash water such as a product made with borax. Such aids are found where laundry detergents are sold. Heloise LAUNDRY HELP Dear Heloise: My definition of a “cotton-picking woman" is someone who lets two or three facial tissues go through her washload of dark corduroys. Horrors! 1 rinsed and rinsed them but my husband’s navy blue corduroy pants still looked tacky even though I used both vinegar and fabric softeners m the rinse water. I put up the ironing board, got a good, stiff brush, my bottle of white

vinegar and my steam iron. It was tedious, time-consuming work but it did the job! You must be prepared to go over every inch with the brush dipped in the white vinegar. Start from the waistband and work down. Steam and brush the material firmly and remove all pieces of tissue as you go. STAIN REMOVER Dear Heloise: The cheapest and easiest aid for removing tomato stains from plastic tablecloths is bright sunshine. Put the stained cloth over a clothesline on a hot, sunny day. In a few hours the tomato stain will have bleached out of the doth. No fuss, no muss, and no money spent! - T. Roth * * * Mother Nature to the rescue again! Heloise * * * CHANGING TABLE Dear Heloise: Here is an idea for mothers who think they have no more use for a changing table their baby has outgrown. My two-year-old son had a bunch of toys and no toy box except for a plain cardboard box, which wasn’t very attractive! Seeing how bad it looked after I re-arranged and fixed up his room, my eye caught the changing table in the comer of the bedroom. It had been sitting there for a long time, unusued. I was looking at the animals I had already painted on it when I got the idea of using the changing table as a toy box! I opened the table and started separating my son’s toys, putting different types of toys in different bins. After I was finished, it looked great. I keep his books and stuffed toys on the top.
