DARIN BUIS: Ready for state finals

South Putnam junior likes rodeo competition

BELLE UNION-Darin Buis, 16, Bell Union, will join several other members of the Indiana High School Rodeo Association when he competes at the state finals June 28-30 at Danville. Buis, a South Putnam High School junior, competes in bareback bronc riding. This is his second year of high school rodeo competition. “I enjoy the challenge,” Buis said. “It’s your ability against an animal that is a whole lot bigger and more powerful than you are.” FOR PRACTICE PURPOSES, Buis has traveled to Illinois to take part in a clinic conducted by Ray Cox at Jacksonville. Vocational students honored

Two Putnam County Area Vocational School Health Occupations graduates recently received scholarship awards of $250 each from the Putnam County Health Occupations Scholarship Fund. The graduates were Brenda Lane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lane, Roachdale, and Tina Huller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Huller, Fillmore. AFTER MEETING the necessary criteria, awards are given to graduating Health Occupation students that are continuing their education in a health related field. Miss Lane will be attending Franklin College, majoring in nursing, and Miss Huller will attend Vincennes University, also majoring in nursing. The Scholarship Fund was made
