People in the news Norris'action not missing c. 1985 N.Y. Times News Service NEW YORK Chuck Norris has an 18-stitch scar over his eyebrow, incurred when he fell out of a tree making Missing in Action 2,” and a 16-stitch scar below his lip thanks to the initially-released “Missing in Action.” This is hardly the only evidence that Norris flings himself into film making wholeheartedly. Only eight years after “Good Guys Wear Black,” his first feature, Norris has become a oneman cottage industry. By August, when his “Invasion U.S.A.’ opens, he will have had four films released here in less than a year. (“Missing in Action 2,” starring Norris, starts tonight (Friday) at Ashley Square Cinemas in Greencastle.) “What they want to see is what I want to do,” he said of his audience, which has been changing somewhat; he says it now includes more women. But Norris’s films have been more and more successful lately, and more expensive; “Invasion U.S.A.” will include a $2 million Everglades sequence and employ a small tank, with a total cost of sl2 million, which is more than twice his usual budget. He thinks the films have been getting better, too, and has been doing his best to find room for improvement. “I’m not an emotional type,” he said. “I don’t go all to pieces thinking about how I could have done better what I did before. When I see something I don’t like, I just correct it in the future.” One mistake he will not make, he said, is.to stray verv far from type. “When you talk about actors, Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier are actors,” he said. “They can do anything. Then you have your personalities, Burt Reynolds, Sylvester Stallone, Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood, me. When they deviate too much from what audiences expect, they don’t do very well, do they?” • BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Country music singer Janie Fricke has funded a scholarship for young musicians at Indiana University, her alma mater, the school has announced. The Janie Fricke Scholarship for Aspiring Musicians will be awarded annually to a member of the Singing Hoosiers choral group who exhibits the “attitude, talent and dedication necessary for professional success in the area of musical performance,” the announcement Thursday said. Miss Fricke is a former member of the group. “It is a great honor for us to have this scholarship in Janie’s name,” said Robert Stoll, director of the Singing Hoosiers. CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) Actress Ann Jillian, who returned to work less than two weeks after surgery for breast cancer, says she’s getting better every day. “I received so many letters from other people who’ve had cancer telling me not to worry, I was going to be the same girl afterward,” Miss Jillian, 35, said Thursday during rehearsals for “Alice in Wonderland.” The actress, discharged from a hospital Friday after undergoing a double mastectomy April 12, said she was a “little sore,” but “it gets better every day. My movements are limited, but that’s only temporary.” She said she had worked only a few days on Irwin Allen’s four-hour production of the Lewis Carroll fantasy for CBS TV when doctors detected the cancer. She said they felt it should be operated on immediately.

DYAN CANNON Weds businessman

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) Actress Dyan Cannon married real estate broker Stanley Fimberg one week earlier than planned to assure the ceremony’s privacy, her publicist said. Miss Cannon, 48, married Fimberg, 50, at his Beverly Hills home Saturday. It was the second marriage for the actress and the third for Fimberg, said publicist George Kirvay. “I knew the second we met that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him,” Miss Cannon was reported as saying. “I even called my parents and told them so that’s how sure I was.” The actress was divorced from actor Cary Grant 15 years ago, and their daughter, Jennifer Grant, was at her mother’s wedding. The ceremony had been scheduled for April 26, “but they wanted it to be private and went ahead” last week, Kirvay said. A reception is planned before the couple leaves next week for a one-month European honeymoon, he said. Miss Cannon appears in the TV movie, “Jenny’s War,” slated for release next fall. • LOS ANGELES (AP) Murray Matheson, a movie, stage and television actor known for his portrayal of stern characters, died Thursday of an apparent heart attack. He was 73. Matheson toured with Australian national companies until 1935 when he moved to London, making his debut there in a revue, “And On We Go,” in 1937. He first appeared in an American film in 1952 in the lit-tle-remembered “Hurricane Smith” but obtained featured billing the following year in the convict-ship thriller,“Botany Bay.” His other films included “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Twilight Zone-The Movie.” From 1972 to 1974 he appeared in the TV detective drama “Banacek” and had guest appearances in “Charlie’s Angels,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “McCloud” and “Vegas.” • SAN DIEGO (AP) Most of the $3.3 million donated to the San Diego Zoo by Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, will be used to rebuild aging structures and dilapidated exhibits at the 69-year-old facility, officials said. “She gave us a call and said, ‘I want to help,”’ zoo spokeswoman Georgeanne Irvine said Thursday. The gift was a total surprise, he said. Mrs. Kroc decided to make the donation, the largest gift in the history of the famed institution, after reading newspaper accounts of the zoo’s problems.
