volved as contestants work to make a profit from a given set of circumstances. EACH TEAM IS GIVEN the same type farm and from this they must decide what type of operation they will pursue. Crops, livestock, machinery and financing will all tie into these budget operations from which, hopefully, the operation will make a profit. Their operations, on paper, will cover a three-year span. Kerry Ames is a sponsor of the game which is identical in procedure to that which Purdue University uses for agriculture students. Through the com-
Radial tires said best for farm tractors Radial tractor tires will give six to seven per cent better traction efficiency than bias-ply tires when tractors are identically equipped, according to research by North Dakota University agricultural engineers. THEIR CONSTRUCTION is the major reason for the improved traction of radial tires. That is, they’re made to flex more. The tread stays in contact with soil longer. Because of the improved traction, radials increase field capacity and reduce fuel consumption. In one test, fuel consumption was cut 7.25 per cent and wheel slip reduced from 13 per cent for bias-ply tires to 9.75 per cent for radials. The advantage of radial tires, according to researchers, was greatePwith heavier loads, in wet or loose soils, and at slower speeds when traction becomes a limiting factor.

the facts about an industry that shares with only a very few other enterprises one characteristic: it is absolutely necessary to the survival of our nation. We salute all involved in the vast food chain of America, from farm suppliers to retail grocers on American Agriculture Day, March 20,1985.
In this day and age of dairy operation, it's the milking machine that does most of the work. But as Noble Fry of Roachdale illustrates, there is still a lot on han-ds-on labor necessary. This year's Ag Day theme focuses on the "hands-on" work on the farm. (Banner-Graphic photo by Bob Frazier).
