By JOEY SASSO Rock Hudson admits that time is running out for him. And it's because he is so obsessed with the idea, say insiders, that he's trying to recapture his golden days by launching his television comeback on "Dynasty." Hollywood sources reveal that the 59-year-old actor had vowed never to do another television series following the tensions and traumas he suffered on the "Devlin Connection." Johnny Carson has shelled out $9.5 million-a record price even in star-studded Malibu, Calif.-for a fantastic, seaside villa to share with Alex Mass, the blonde beauty insiders say will become the fourth Mrs. Carson. A family friend says that Johnny, 58, will marry Alex, 34, as soon as his divorce from third wife Joanna becomes final early next year. "Frankly, some family members are concerned, because no one seems to know much about her or her background," the friend adds. "Facts of Life" stars Lisa Whelchel, Mindy Cohn, Nancy McKeon and Kim Fields may be warm friends on the TV screen-bur they bicker frequently and coldly ignore each other when they leave the set, insiders say. "When they're working, the girls usually get along fine, but they have different strong points of view when it comes to life, and they're gotten into some verbal disagreements." EYE ON TV: Elizabeth Taylor used to curry favor from gossip queen Louella Parsons, Hollywood's most hated woman. Now, she is playing the feared tattler in a movie. Liz is co-starring in "Malice In Wonderland," a CBS-TV movie about Parsons and her archrival Hedda Hopper, who will be played by Lauren Bacall. For decades, the two gossips terrorized Hollywood's greatest with columns that dripped venom. Meanwhile, Liz and her new boyfriend, entrepreneur Dennis Stein, who visited her on the set, are filling up current gossip columns. Stein has been lavishing his new love with jewelry, and allowed her to nudge him into the Pritkin Diet Center to shed a few pounds from his ample frame.

ROCK HUDSON Feels time running out

In fact, the free-wheeling Stein, a close friend of Frank Sinatra, is the man who comes closest to Mike Todd, the husband the actress remembers most fondly-including Richard Burton. TV INSIDER: Brenda Dickson, who plays Jill Abbott on "The Young And The Restless," was stood up at a recent benefit banquet by Bradley Lockerman "Capitol." But next day, she learned he had a good reason for leaving her unescorted: His apartment had been robbed. Brad, whose place was left in a shambles, was busy with the police all night. However, he offered to make it up to Brenda, and she promised to help him get his apartment back in shape.

Asner longing for new series Ed Asner has been off series duty for two years, since ‘‘Lou Grant” was canceled. He has been keeping busy with endless meetings as president of the Screen Actors Guild and has also been active in many humanitarian endeavors, including setting up a food bank for the poor in Portland, Ore. He yearns to return to series status. He co-starred with Eileen Brennan in “Off the Rack,” a pilot that aired last month on ABC. He hopes that the comedy about the garment business will find a regular place on the network’s schedule. “I want to do a series,” Asner says, “so I won’t have to work as hard. I need the discipline and I need the regularity and the money ain’t bad either.”
