fa. The investigation took place with the cooperation of the Indiana State Police. ACCORDING TO HOFFA, the investigation could not have been initiated without the help of the State Police as the county has no funds to conduct undercover drug buys. In addition to the six men taken into custody last week, Hoffa said the department has a warrant for the arrest of another Putnam County man. “When we’re done, we think we will have about 12 individuals taken into custody,” Hoffa said of the drug-related arrests. “Right now, we are arresting individuals involved mainly with marijuana.” the sheriff pointed out. “We anticipate there could be other drugs involved, but that hasn’t materialized yet.” IN ADDITION TO THE alleged drug infractions, Hoffa noted the arrests are expected to clear up unsolved burglaries and thefts, which took place in Putnam County.

In addition to the State Police’s assistance, help during the arrest procedures was provided by the Greencastle City Police, Hoffa said. The informant aspect is proving to be a boon to law enforcement officials’ quest to curtail drug activity locally, according to Hoffa. “A lot of our deputies, and other police officers, have been around for a long time,” Hoffa related. “When all of your law enforcement officers are too well known, you have to rely on other people that can buy and sell. “WE WERE LUCKY TO have an informant start working with our department,” Hoffa assessed. “At times, it can be very difficult to get someone to work in an undercover operation.” The six individuals currently charged offered police no resistance when apprehended, Hoffa said. Some, he added, do have previous arrest records for drugrelated charges.
