Steve Forrest

—TV DIALOGUE—

RAVING ABOUT RICHARD Chamberlain especially since seeing him in “The Thorn Birds.” I heard that he might be appearing on “Dynasty” this year. Is it true? P.M., Oakville. Well, anything’s possible on a show that has managed to nab even an ex-president, but we haven’t heard anything to this effect. The good news we can tell you is that Chamberlain will be starring in a new NBC miniseries this season called “Wallenberg.” He will play Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who saved the lives of thousands of European Jews during World War 11.

DELIGHTFUL DOLLY I was wondering just when it was that Dolly Parton used to appear on TV with Porter Wagoner? R.R., Calgary. Miss Parton was just a young gal back in 1960 when she was a regular on “The Porter Wagoner Show.” JACK’S PAST Whenever I see Jack Palance on “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!,” I try to remember the name of a police show he used to star in. Can you help? S.T., Winnipeg. It was “Bronk,” which was on CBS in 1975. Palance played Lt. Alex Bronkov. an Ocean Citv, Calif., police lieutenant. CAN WE WRITE? Could you please advise me where I might write to Joan Rivers? I’m such a great fan and think the lady has a wonderful sense of humor. D.C., Regina. There are those who would call Joanie anything but a lady, D.C., but we agree with you. Since she’s the permanent guest host whenever Johnny Carson is off, your best bet is to write to her c/o “The Tonight Show,” NBC, 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, CA 91523. BEDROCK-SOLID You seem to be very good at answering questions about “The Flintstones,” but we bet this one stumps even you. What was Barney Rubble’s street address? B. & A.H., Belleville, Ont. We hate to show off, but Barney lived at 345 Stone Cave Road. OSCAR WINNER paper was Oscar Madison a sportswriter? J.T., Vancouver. It was the fictitious New York Herald. At one time, there really was such a newspaper it was the one that sent Henry M. Stanley to find Dr. Livingstone, but it was defunct way before Oscar Madison came along. DEACON DOINGS Wasn’t the late Richard Deacon a cohort of Don Adams years ago in the “Get Smart” series? E.J.M., Newmarket, Ont. No, but he certainly resembled Edward Platt, who played the Chief. The series did employ some actors who are now regular TV performers, including Stacy Reach, Bernie Kopell and Victor French. SINGING WAITRESS Something I’ve always wondered is whether Linda Lavin actually sings the theme song of “Alice” and also could you please tell me who wrote it? F.V., Halifax. Yes, that’s Linda’s voice trilling “There’s a New Girl in Town,” which was written by the übiquitous Oscar-winning team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

“5.W.A.T.,” but my husband says it was Gene Barry. Who wins? C. 8., Jackson, Mich. You do. “S.W.A.T.” is still in syndication in many markets. FLIP SIDE Can you tell me Flip Wilson’s real name? W.D., Pawtucket, R.I. Flip came into the world 50 years ago as Clerow Wilson. FAMOUS MOM We recently saw John Putch in “Angel Dusted” and were trying to remember who his mother is. We know she is an actress. J.& G.S., Mass. His mom is Jean Stapleton of “All in the Family” fame.
