James Widdoes and Julie Cobb play an upwardly mobile young couple who leave the care of their three energetic children to a college student (Scott Baio, not pictured) in "Charles in Charge,” airing Wednesday, Oct. 10 on CBS.
—TV DIALOGUE—
CARA’S COMEDY I used to watch a comedy with Cara Williams and Harry Morgan, but I can’t remember the name. Is she still working? W.K.H., Willow Grove, Pa. The two starred in “Pete and Gladys,” a follow-up series to "December Bride,” which also starred Morgan. Miss Williams acts infrequently and last had a small part in Charles Bronson’s 1977 western “The White Buffalo.” SMOKING GUN Please tell me who was the first actor to play Matt Dillon on “Gunsmoke,” in both the radio and TV versions. W.W., Whittier, Calif. William Conrad was the voice of Marshall Dillon on the radio show that was first broadcast in 1952 and lasted nine years. John Wayne was the choice for the part when it came to TV in 1955, but he didn’t want to do a series and suggested James Arness the first and only Matt Dillon on TV. BROADWAY REX - I just saw Rex Smith in a cable special as a singer trying to make it on Broadway. Please tell me where I can see him again? P.N., Burlington, Conn. Smith, himself, has made it big on Broadway, most recently in “The Human Comedy” and “The Pirates of Penzance” before that. He’s slated to star in an ABC series this fall called “Street Hawk” as a cop with a super-duper motorcycle. But the show was scheduled for the Monday night slot that has now been given to “Call to Glory.” It’s on the shelf waiting for a time slot. PAGING DAVID LEE Please tell me where I can write David Lee Roth of Van Halen. M.C., Flint, Mich. Write in care of P.O. Box 2138 N. Hollywood, CA 90028.FOR SALE Please give me the address for “Sale of the Century.” R. 8., Mount Morris, Mich. Write in care of Reg Grundy Productions Inc., 9911 W. Armand Assante
ADORABLE ARMAND I think Armand Assante is adorable. Can you tell me how old he is and some of the movies he has been in? K.G., Jackson, Mo. Assante was born in New York City on Oct. 4, 1949. He just completed work on a new NBC miniseries, “Evergreen,” which the network hopes will match the success of “Rage of Angels.” Assante’s first movie was “The Lords of Flatbush,” followed by “Paradise Alley,” “Prophecy,” “Little Darlings,” “Love and Money,” “Private Benjamin,” “I, the Jury” and “Unfaithfully Yours.” HANG UP Can you tell me the name of a movie in which Barbara Stanwyck portrayed an invalid terrorized by a man calling on the phone? D.J., Duxbury, Mass. Miss Stanwyck picked up an Oscar nomination for her role in 1948’s “Sorry, Wrong Number.” THESE EYES Please tell me how T.J.’s eyes got scarred in “Celebrity,” —- G.L., Flint, Mich. While cleaning off a painting he had made on a jailhouse wall, T.J. had a lye solution thrown in his face by a fellow inmate.
