People in the news More nude photos of Vanessa due NEW YORK (AP) Former Miss America Vanessa Williams, who resigned her crown under fire because of sexually explicit photos of her with another woman published in Penthouse magazine, has acknowledged posing nude for a second photographer. Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione said the second collection of nude photographs of Miss Williams will appear in the January issue of his magazine. The pictures were taken by photographer Greg Whitman and that Miss Williams signed a model’s release before posing for the shots, she says. “When I first heard that Penthouse was publishing nude photos of me, I assumed they were by Whitman,” Miss Williams said. “In my naivete, I had signed a release for Whitman.” Miss Williams said she later “felt badly” about the pictures and asked Whitman if she could have the photos back, The New York Times reported today. The photographer returned them all, she said, except for several color slides which Whitman said he wanted for his portfoloio. The first set of photos, featuring Miss Williams and model Amy Wessell, were taken by photographer Tom Chiapel and published in the September issue of Penthouse. Miss Williams, a former Miss New York, insists she never signed a release form for those photos. Both sets of photos were taken in the summer of 1982. • LOS ANGELES (AP) Producer Robert Evans says he and Las Vegas financiers Edward and Fred Doumani have settled their bitter legal battle over “The Cotton Club,” a S4B million film due for release in December. In return for his 50 percent interest in the movie, Evans was relieved of having to repay loans totaling $3.5 million and gets a cash payment he described as “close to seven figures.” Evans, who spent years developing the film about the famed New York speakeasy of the Prohibition Era, will receive screen credit as producer and presenter of the film, which stars Richard Gere, Gregory Hines and Diane Lane and is directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Evans also will receive additional payments from the Doumanis if ticket sales exceed certain levels. “They were very generous ... ,” Evans said. “I hope their investment in ‘The Cotton Club’ proves a favorable one,” The Doumanis also reportedly paid $5.8 million to acquire investor Victor Sayyah’s 25 percent share in the film, leaving the Doumanis as sole owner. Asked about the film’s financial prospects, Evans said: “If the drama in the film is one-half as good as the drama in making the film, it will make profits.” • “Bolero,” the latest Derek-Derek production (John directed and Bo stars), is scheduled to open Aug. 31. “Bolero,” not to be confused with the George Raft-Carole Lombard film of the same title (1935), is the subject of heated controversy. The film allegedly presents Mrs. Derek in compromising poses. There will be few surprises. Stills from the footage have already been used in one of the skin magazines.

COLLEEN DEWHURST Voices didn't 'jive'

CHESTER, Conn. (AP) Stage star Colleen Dewhurst recently paid a visit to a rehearsal of an unusual production of “All the Way Home,” at the National Theater of the Deaf. “The only distracting part occurred when the voices didn’t ‘jive’ with what the actors were ‘saying,’” Miss Dewhurst, 58, said during a break. In the production, members of the national repertory company express the dialogue through sign language while two “hearing” actors speak their parts. “This is an exceptional ensemble,” Miss Dewhurst said later. “They know each other and have a tremendous ability to express themselves.” “All the Way Home” is Tad Mosel’s adaption of the novel, “A Death in the Family” by James Agee. The theater is getting ready to start a national tour Sept. 28. • NEW YORK (AP) Designer Calvin Klein, who in the past 16 years has managed to build his fashion house into a $1 billion-a-year worldwide business, says he owes most of his success to luck. “I don’t think I deserve what I have ... I have far too much,” says Klein, 42, who spends sls million a year on advertising and recently bought the company that manufactures his best-selling blue jeans for s6l million. The designer made his comments in this week’s Parade magazine. Klein says he and his single rack of designs were discovered in a cubbyhole room on Seventh Avenue by a Bonwit Teller executive who accidentally got off on the wrong floor. The mistake led to a $50,000 order. • ANKARA, Turkey (AP) Former astronaut James Irwin is at it again climbing Mt. Ararat in search of Noah’s Ark for the fourth time. “I believe that I will be more succesful this time and will send you good news from the peak,” Irwin was quoted as saying by a Turkish news agency before starting the quest Thursday. The independent Hurriyet News Agency reported that he was accompanied by his son-in-law, John Christianson, friend Dick Bright and Turkish guide Ucman Sungur. Irwin was to set up a base camp at the 10,499-foot level and a second camp at 13,779 feet by this evening, the agency said. The group will approach the 16,945-foot peak in the last three days of their climb v
