People in the news Stallone more fun than Burt: Dolly NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Country music super singer Dolly Parton says making a movie with Sylvester Stallone was more fun than working with Burt Reynolds but, she says. “I made money off of both of them.” Miss Parton said she enjoyed working with Stallone “because we got a chance to get more involved and have more of the energy in the songs...” The singer-songwriter turned actress made her remarks Monday at the Nashville premier of the movie “Rhinestone.” in which she co-stars with Stallone. The movie is a countrified Pygmalion in which a country music star Miss Parton bets she can train a New York City cab driver Stallone to be a professional singer. Asked Monday whether she liked the film Miss Parton said, “I was too nervous to know.” Stallone, who fought to fame with his series of boxing “Rocky” movies, says he doesn’t think the film is the start of music career for him. “I hate my singing,” he said. “It’ll never be the greatest hits or greatest miss album.” • LOS ANGELES (AP) The mother of slain soul singer Marvin Gaye Jr. has filed for divorce from her husband, who is scheduled to stand trial for the gunshot slaying of the entertainer. Alberta Gay, 71, and Marvin Gay Sr., 70, have been married almost 49 years. In a Los Angeles Superior Court petition filed Friday, Mrs. Gay cited April 1 as the date of their official separation, the same day that the younger Gaye, 44, was fatally shot in his parents’ house. The couple’s late son, who added an ‘e” to his name when he began his performing career, became famous for a string of hits over several years. Among the honey-voiced singer’s best-known songs were “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” and the 1982 Grammy-winning “Sexual Healing.” Authorities have said the shooting followed an argument between the fater and son over a misplaced insurance policy. Mrs. Gay was also in the house at the time. Gay Sr., a retired minister, last week was found mentally competent to stand trial for his son’s murder. Mrs. Gay cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition. She listed the family’s Los Angeles home as community property, valued at $200,000, with furnishings valued at $2,000.

Ghosts and 'Gremlins' pack 'em in

HOLLYWOOD (AP) “Ghostbusters” and “Gremlins” more than held onto the two top spots at the box office last weekend as “Indiana Jones” hustled his way over the SIOO million mark in third place. The order of the weekend’s top seven grossing films was unchanged from the previous week, but the disparity between the leaders and the rest of the field continued to grow. Here are the top seven grossing films last weekend, with studio, number of weeks in release, weekend gross, and total gross: “Ghostbusters” Columbia, two weeks, $15.2 million, $38.3

DOLLY PARTON A money-maker

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Clara Peller, the feisty 82-year-old actress who growled the line “Where’s the beef?” in commercials for Wendy’s restaurants, asked “Where’s all the people” when she visited the chains’s first outlet. Mrs. Peller posed the embarrassing question Tuesday to Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas as they toured a nearly deserted Wendy’s in downtown Columbus that first opened its doors in 1969. “I love to work, especially this kind of work,” Mrs. Peller said. “You can be old, you can be young you can do it,” she said. Mrs. Peller wore the same dark, lace-collared dress that she wore in the commercials that company spokesman Brad Quicksall said helped the Wendy’s chain record a 32 percent increase in profits last year. Wendy’s took Mrs. Peller’s commercials off the air in early April, but plans to bring her back later this year. • PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Richard Nixon has a new grandchild and the former president wasted no time hurrying over from his New Jersey home to see the bouncing baby girl born to his daughter Julie Eisenhower. “I think Julie wanted a girl,” Nixon told a reporter Tuesday as dozens of people crowded around for autographs. “I’m partial to girls because we had two girls.” The baby, Melanie Catherine, was born Monday night, the third child of Julie and David Eisenhower. She was about two weeks later than expected and Nixon joked that the late birth might have been the reason for her size pounds, 8 ounces.
