DALE EVANS: Back in saddle People in the news
Palimony pal for Mrs. Pulitzer PALM BEACH. Fla. Roxanne Pulitzer, who lost custody of her-twin sons and was ordered to move out of her former husband’s $1.5 million Palm Beach home, has hired Los Angeles palimony lawyer Marvin Mitchelson to help her appeal her divorce case and fight for visitation rights to her children. Mitchelson said he would work with attorney Joseph Farish, who represented Mrs. Pulitzer during her sensational divorce from Palm Beach millionaire Peter Pulitzer. “Right now, a lot of help is needed," Mitchelson said. Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Carl Harper last week gave Pulitzer custody of the couple’s sons, Zachary and Maclean, after saying Mrs. Pulitzer had committed “flagrant adultery.” He awarded Mrs. Pulitzer $2,000 a month alimony for two years and said she could keep a $20,000 Porsche and $60,000 in jewels. “It looks like Rev Jerry Falwell might have written the decision,” Mitchelson said. Mitchelson, who said he was contacted by Mrs. Pulitzer Monday, refused to discuss his fee in the case. Harper awarded Farish and his partner Louis Williams $102,500 for their work on the divorce case. Mitchelson gained national attention as attorney for Michelle Triola in her $1 million suit against actor Lee Marvin, with whom she lived for almost seven years before he married another woman. A judge awarded 1 Miss Triola $104,000, but the award later was overturned. In court papers filed Wednesday, Farish claimed Pulitzer had not allowed his former wife to visit their children since Dec. 26. He also asked Harper to extend a Jan. 10 deadline for Mrs. Pulitzer to move out of the Pulitzer house in Palm Beach. Farish said Mrs. Pulitzer had no money to rent an apartment or condominium because she will not receive her first alimony payment until Jan. 10. Harper had ordered Pulitzer to pay his former wife a $7,000 cash equity on his 75foot boat, the Sea Hunter, but she can't pay her bills until she gets the money, Farish said. Mrs. Pulitzer also placed a classified advertisement in The Palm Beach Post Wednesday to sell her 1978 Porsche. “Excellent condition. One owner. $22,000 cash only.” the ad reads. “She is enduring a great hardship in attempting to locate another residence without funds,” Farish said in his motion. “The former wife has no furniture and-or furnishings with which to furnish an apartment, no linens, radio, blanket, nothing except her personal belongings.” SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Former cowgirl movie star Dale Evans has been released from a hospital where she had cataract surgery. Miss Evans. 70, who is married to her cinema sidekick. Roy Rogers, was admitted Monday to Western Medical Center and had the operation Tuesday, said her secretary, Francie Williams. She was released Wednesday. Rogers, also 70, had been out of town on business and planned to return to Southern California on Wednesday to meet his wife, said his secretary. Rogers and Miss Evans made 35 films together and costarred in the “Roy Rogers” cowboy series that ran on television for 12* 2 years. • NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Because she’s an “outdoors enthusiast,” country music singer Loretta Lynn has been picked to chair the 46th annual National Wildlife Week in March. “Loretta is a natural for this theme,” Jim Salmon, public affairs director of the National Wildlife Federation in Washington, D C., said. “She is a sincere, honest person known by many million Americans, and she fits the country theme of this year’s observance so well.” “This Is Your Land Public Lands Belong To All Of Us” is the theme for the March 20-26 observance. Miss Lynn has made several recordings of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” that will be broadcast on television and radio stations nationwide during the year. • OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti joked his way into Oklahoma with praise for its ladies and a ribbing for the women in his own life. Pavarotti, arriving here Wednesday for a benefit concert Friday night, told fans and reporters who greeted him at the airport that he was most impressed with the beautiful women he saw. The 37-year-old singer also said he developed his own powerful voice because he had to speak loudly during a life surrounded by women first his mother and aunts and later his wife and three daughters. Pavarotti’s recital Friday will raise money for the St. Anthony Hospital Cardiovascular Institute. Tickets priced from $25 to $75 sold out five hours after going on sale Dec. 6. About 40 seats remain at $350 each.
