People in the news Cugat, 83, has another attack BARCELONA, Spain (AP) Latin band leader Xavier Cugat suffered another heart attack early Tuesday and was returned to the intensive care unit of the Quiron Clinic in Barcelona, doctors said. Cugat, 83, had left the intensive care unit Monday after doctors found him much better from the heart failure he suffered on Christmas Eve dinner at the hotel where he has been staying since he returned to his native Spain from the United States five years ago. A medical bulletin issued by attending doctors said Cugat was “recovering slowly from this new crisis,” but added that it was not clear when Cugat would leave the intensive care unit. Cugat was hospitalized for a similar problem in Barcelona last March. JERUSALEM (AP) Actress Elizabeth Taylor, in bandages following an auto accident on an Israeli highway, met with Prime Minister Menachem Begin for about 20 minutes at his Jerusalem office on Tuesday. Miss Taylor was treated in a hospital for abrasions on her legs following a collision Saturday night. Her 10-day visit was marred earlier when she had to be hospitalized for several hours suffering from breathing problems and a sore throat. Despite her travails, she is determined to go through with her schedule, her spokesmen say. Miss Taylor flies to Beirut on Wednesday to meet Lebanese President Amin Gemayel and visit Israeli troops in Lebanon. On Thursday, she is to look in on the fourth round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations at the Israeli town of Kirvat Shmona on the Lebanese border. • NEW YORK Barry Gibb, the lead singer with the Bee Gees, the rock group, is such an avid tennis fan that he persuaded Ilie Nastase to collect a virtual all-star set of racquets from Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg and Guillermo Vilas as w'ell as from Nastase himself at Nastase's recent tournament in Miami. In exchange, Gibb promised Nastase one of his guitars. But the irrepressible Nastase. perhaps remembering what he did with the football the Miami Dolphins once presented to him he batted it away with his tennis racquet let Gibb off easily. “Just give me a record.” said Nastase. “You give me a guitar. I’ll probably hit a ball with it." • LOS ANGELES (AP) First lady Nancy Reagan got a musical tribute from a 10-year-old pianist, who wrote and played “Portrait of a Lady” at a luncheon in her honor. In return. Mrs. Reagan presented John Argosino with a musical theme called “To Love a Child.” The boy was one of eight performers from the Young Musicians Foundation who played for Mrs. Reagan on Tuesday at the Los Angeles Music Center. “There are a lot of very talented performers waiting in the wings out there," Mrs. Reagan told about 350 members of The Amazing Blue Ribbon, a financial support group for the Music Center. The first lady sat on the piano bench beside the tuxedoclad boy as he improvised on the melody she gave him. Afterward, she gave him a hug. • NEW YORK (AP)-As a phrasemaker, Kraft Inc. is pretty cheesy, according to a self-appointed guardian of English usage. Lawrence Casler, leader of the Society for the Advance of Good English, awarded the cheese manufacturer the society’s Dunce Cap of the Year award for 1982, citing two advertisements-one saying a Kraft product is “more cheesier” and another with a dairy farmer telling a productive milk cow, “You did good.” The dunce cap. recognizing “persistent and conspicuous abuse of the English language,” is given yearly by the society.

PETER FALK: The wanderer LOS ANGELES (AP) Peter Falk, star of the “Columbo” television series, caught the attention of a defendant when the actor stopped in to watch a real-life murder trial. “I occasionally wander into a courtroom,” Falk said Tuesday. "I hear this is a hot one.” When the prosecutor in the “Sunset Strip" murder trial asked defendant Douglas Clark if he knew the color and size of one victim’s underwear, Clark initially said he had no idea other than what he had read in police files. After the prosecutor pressed the question, Clark said. “It doesn’t take a Columbo to figure out what size (she wore).” Clark, 34, has pleaded innocent in the 1980 shooting deaths of six young women, ranging in age from 15 to 24, who frequented nightclubs along Sunset Boulevard. He could face the death penalty if convicted. • LOS ANGELES (AP) Sherry Lansing, who became the first female president of a major film studio three years ago, now has formed a new company with producerdirector Stanley R. Jaffe. Ms. Lansing, who resigned as president of Fox Productions two weeks ago, said Monday the company, JaffeeLansing Productions will produce films for Paramount Pictures under an exclusive five-year contract. Jaffe resigned from Fox on Monday. The president and chief operating officer of Paramount. Michael Eisner, said the studio’s investment in the JaffeLansing firm would be enough so the company would eventually be able to deliver three or four films a year. Jaffe. 42. who made his first film, “Goodbye. Columbus." for Paramount, has also produced the Academy Awardwinning “Kramer vs. Kramer” for Columbia Pictures and “Taps" for Fox. Ms. Lansing, 37. supervised Jaffe's last three pictures, first at Columbia and then at Fox. • Alan King says comedy is making a big comeback in Hollywood. "That's what the studios are asking for," the wry comic said. “I think there’s a place for ‘Star Wars’ and E.T ,’ but I think real strong, identifiable comedy is where it's going. I knew they'd get around to my business.” KING SOON WILL appear with Dudley Moore, in “Lovesick.” But he estimates that “90 percent of my business has been producing films the last eight or nine years.” He’s set to produce several humor movies. “One is for Paramount and the script is just being completed. It's 'Both Sides of the Park,' a true story about a man in New York who was married to two women for 11 years. I don’t know how the hell he passed the physical. “Then I’m doing a picture about a young boy in the Catskills, ‘Summer on a Mountain of Spices.’ It’s for Warner Brothers and it's about the rites of passage, also a high comedy.” / KIND DOESN’T ACT in flicks he produces: The line is, as a producer I don't hire me as an actor. 1 can’t afford me.”
