APPLE OAT KUCHEN 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour l-3rd cup granulated sugar 1 package dry yeast 1 teaspoon salt V 4 teaspoon ground cinnamon V 4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Vz cup very warm (120 to 130 degrees) water Vi cup butter (1 quarter-pound stick), melted

3 large eggs 1 cup quick-cooking or regular oats 3 cups sliced peeled apples Streusel, recipe follows Confectioners’ sugar, if desired In the large bowl of an electric mixer stir together well 1 cup of the flour, the granulated sugar, yeast, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the water and butter; beat at medium speed for about 2 minutes. Add the eggs and another cup of flour; beat at high speed for about 2 minutes. Stir in the remaining 1 cup flour and the oats. Spoon batter into two well-greased 9inch round layer-cake pans, spreading evenly. Cover; let rise in a draft-free warm (about 80 degrees) place until nearly double in size. Gently arrange apple slices on top of batter. Evenly sprinkle the Streusel over the apples.
Local homemakers host 'Cute as Button' party
“Cute as a Button” was the theme used for the Christmas meeting of the Town and Country Extension Homemakers Club held at the Vance Case in Waveland. NINETEEN members and guests, Betty Sendmeyer and Evelyn Fallerfound gathered around a table marked by button snowman favors and placecards made by president Marge Hopkins. Following the turkey dinner, each member presented her secret sister with a Christmas stocking filled with freebies. -The largest stocking contained 800 items and was made by Martha Ann Smith and presented to Juanita Lively. Santa scores TKO LONDON (AP) Christmas is for wise men, but not wise guys, and Santa Claus proved it when he got fed up with a 15-year-old and decorated the boy’s ear with his fist. The Jolly Old Elf, in the person of Graham Head, admitted to losing his cool when the boy pulled an aerosol can and, as wide-eyed youngsters looked on, sprayed Santa with streamers of foam. “I told the kid to go away but he wouldn’t listen,” Santa said. “So I gave him a clip around the ear to stop him. That aerosol stuff was going all over the place. I had to get another beard and my costume cleaned.”
Bake in a preheated 375-de-gree oven until edges of kuchen are a light golden brown. Place on wire cooling racks for 10 minutes; turn out on racks; turn right side up. Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar. Makes two 9-inch round kuchen. Serve warm. Or completely cool one of the kuchen for future use: wrap in airtight foil; freeze. To reheat, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place unwrapped kuchen on a cookie sheet in the preheated oven until hot through utes. OFFICERS FOR 1982 were installed by Betty Sendmeyer. The new officers installed were president Clema Perkins; vice president, Helen Creviston; secretary, Maxine Reasor; treasurer, Anne Kinniker. The 1981 officers were recognized with handcrafted gifts from the president, Marge Hopkins. Program books for 1982 were distributed and reviewed and yearly committees were appointed. The first meeting of the new year will be at the home of Ruth Crosby.
