mission is $1 per person. DESPITE THE FINANCIAL support given three years, the fraternity does not anticipate that its 1981 goal will be met. Rather, members approximate $2,500 will be netted. The uncertainty of the economy and the fact that Arganbright’s memory is not as vivid to most people as it was three years ago have contributed to the modest estimate. \ "The memory (of Arganbright) is far away for most of the brothers,” said Dave Edwards, a spokesman for the Tramp-a-thon project, “it is difficult to keep the memory alive.”

with the Greencastle Classroom Teachers Association (GCTA) and announced its intention to request a mediator. Salary increases reportedly are a major stumbling block in talks at Greencastle. The corporation has proposed a 6 per cent increase in the base and a 3V 2 per cent hike in the increment schedule, while the GCTA is asking a 12 per cent base increase and 31/2 in increments. No date for the mediation sessions, which are closed to the public, have been announced.

Everyday living More about raising children
Submitted by Mental Health Association Director Barbara Lane. Plain Talk about Raising Children-second installment in the series. Love abundantly Discipline Constructively. DISCIPLINE MEANS SETTING and adhering to standards of behavior. After love, the parents stressed the importance of giving clear direction and enforcing limits on a child’s behavior. Discipline is an essential preparation for adjusting to the outside world; it makes a child better behaved and happier. It is best to use a positive approach by saying, “Do This,” more often than “Don’t do that.” Be certain that you punish when you say you will. Be firm by “saying what you mean and meaning what you say.” And punish as soon after the misdeed as possible; don’t put an extra burden on by saying, “Just wait until your father comes home.” *** A DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE program in the Greencastle Community Schools will be initiated with a meeting to be held Nov. 17 in McAnally Center at the Greencastle High School. A panel made up of representatives of law enforcement, a minister, a drug counselor for the court, a representative from mental health, and David English of the county Substance Abuse Program will discuss the problems of young people in these areas. Mrs. Janette Boling, director of curriculum, is coordinating the program.
Myers seeks response to his questionnaire
Indiana Congressman John Myers (R-7th) today urged residents of the Seventh Congressional District to complete and return his annual questionnaire. Rep. Myers, who has sought the views of the Seventh District residents in similar polls each year he has been in Congress, said this year’s constituent opinion survey includes twelve questions covering major issues facing this session of Congress. “This questionnaire provides

One of the committees of the Putnam County Mental Health Association is the Public Policy Committee. It works with the state committee to encourage members of the legislature to support bills to protect the rights of persons in mental hospitals and in nursing homes. DURING THE LAST SESSION of the Indiana State Legislature, a bill of rights for nursing home patients, with enforcement procedures, was not passed by our elected representatives. This inaction took place after many hours and many pages of testimony were given to support the passage of the bill. The most recent case of nursing home abuse that obtained media visibility was brought to light when more than 90 patients were forced from a nursing home in northwest Indiana. A nursing home bill of rights would have prevented this. Many churches, senior citizen organizations, mental health associations, labor and management, and concerned citizens have joined in support of obtaining the proper state legislation. During the months ahead more information on this subject will be forthcoming and, if necessary, a plea for public support from concerned citizens will be made. *** FRIEND-TO-FRIEND PROGRAM chairman Mrs. Richard Beams, encourages those persons who have application forms to be volunteer friends in their possession to return them to her or to the Mental Health Association office as soon as possible.
all Seventh District residents with an opportunity to let me know how they would vote on some of the major issues facing the Congress in 1981. This is one poll in which everyone’s views are sought and I assure each and every constituent that his or her opinion does count,” Rep. Myers said. Congressman Myers said that nearly 20,000 persons responded to last year’s questionnaire and added that he is hopeful even more will let their views be known this year.
