Sear heloise: This is a request for a repeat df the salt and baking soda Combination used as a tooth deaner which you published some time ago. • I made up a supply and was very happy with it, especially Since my dentist found less tartar on my teeth than in previous checkups. I regret the need to ask you for this information since I know I kept the original article. However, hard as I’ve tried, I cannot find it. Thanks for your help. Mrs. Wm. J. Fisher * * * ' Oh! How elusive those hiding places we find for our “treasures” can be. Sometimes I amaze myself at what an expert I am at doing this. Most things turn up sootier or later, though, but since teeth won’t wait, I had better get a replacement recipe to you pronto. 'A’ word of caution, first, however... Since the directions for

making the powder involve using a blender, you should use one which has a glass mixing container. The friction of the salt being blended may scratch a plastic one. If you don’t have a blender, you can use a smooth beverage glass or bottle, which will work just fine. Just place a piece of plastic wrap or aluminum foil on a hard surface and, using the glass, roll a small amount of the salt at a time until it is a fine powder. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. You’ll need the recipe before you start, so here ’tis: First, pour Vh. cups of salt (if you have sensitive teeth, use half this amount) into your blender and turn it on high. Turn it off and shake the container (with the lid on, of course) repeating the process of blending and shaking until the salt is pulverized into a fine, fine, powder. Next, add a 1-pound box of baking soda, then put the lid back on and blend some more. Stop the motor and shake the

blender jar again, then put the lid back on and blend until the soda and salt are completely mixed. That’s all there is to it, folks, but if you would like to perk this mixture up a bit, you can easily add a bit of flavoring. Choose one of the following which suits your taste, or be adventuresome and try all three. Divide the mixture in thirds and add a few drops of oil of cloves to one batch, a few drops of wintergreen flavoring to another batch. (Be sure to add only a few drops at a time until you have the amount that suits your taste.) To the remaining batch, add a few drops of vanilla flavoring. Keep each flavor of powder in a small plastic container and use whichever one you are in the mood for. You’ll have three different kinds of tooth powder which will have cost you practically nothing. Do try this, loves. You don’t have much to lose Heloise
