broke her own record of 148.1 points in the event. King of Cascade won the diving with a 168.55, just five one-hundredths of a point better than Thornburg. Wedmeyer not only won two events and swam on the first place 200-yard medley relay team, but also set a school record in the 200-yard IM. The senior finished the 200-IM in
2:42.94, bettering her former school record of 2:45.033, set in 1978. Wedemeyer also won the 100-yard freestyle. Joining Wedemeyer to form the 200yard medley relay team was Kathi Kurtz, Kim Little and Dawn Kelly. Kelly won two individual events herself. Kelly won the 50yard freestyle in 30.05 seconds and the 500-yard freestyle in 7:19.55 with teammate Tracy Sanders finishing second. Second and third behind Kelly in the 50 free were teammates Diana Stranger and Michele Bainaka.

Tiger ladies are 9-0 The DePauw women’s tennis team closed to within three wins of an unbeaten season with an 8-1 win at Taylor and a 9-0 blanking of Anderson. Nancy Gyorgyi, Ann Baur, Amy Bash, Karen Turman, Becky Ragsdale, and Lynn Williams were all winners in singles play at Taylor last Friday while Gyorgyi and Turman, and Baur and Bash won in the doubles competition. The team of Williams and Maggie Wilder put up a tough fight befor losing 7-6,6-4 to their Taylor opponents. DePauw won all its matches against Anderson with three of them decided in three sets. Gyorgyi remained unbeaten for the season after a grueling 7-5, 2-6,7-6 win over Anderson’s Vicki Graber in the number one singles slot. Baur’s matchup in the second singles position also went the distance before she finally prevailed 6-0,6-7,6-4. Bash, Turman, Ragsdale and Williams were the other singles winners. In doubles play, Gyorgyi and Turman lost the opener 6-2 but rebounded to take the last two sets 6-3,6-1. The teams of Baur and Bash, and Williams and Wilder won their mafches to lift DePauw to its second shutout of the season. DePauw now 9-0, hosts Indiana Central Wednesday in a 3:00 p.m. match at the Blackstock courts. DePauw Harriers win sth The DePauw cross country team improved its record to 5-0 last Saturday after a first place finish in a quadrangular meet at Rose-Hulman. DePauw won the meet with 28 points followed by host RoseHulman 33, Earlham 71 and Centre 106. DePauw won the meet by capturing the second through fourth place slots. Jim Iddins, Jim Mergl and John Turnbull took second, third and fourth, while Dave Hellmich was seventh and Jim Hurley finished 12th. “We did better than I thought we would,” said coach Paul Bretscher after the meet. “We knew that Rose-Hulman was the team to beat and expected a battle for first place.” DePauw travels to Indiana Central for a dual meet on Tuesday. Eagle girls defeated The South Putnam volleyball team lost in two straight games Monday night at Turkey Run, 15-5 and 15-13. The Eagles host Greencastle Thursday in a county-conference rivalry at 6:30 p.m. Lisa Landes led the Eagle scoring with six service points, Glenda Perkins had four, Karen Hutchison and Janet Sutherlin two each while Kim Gilley, Nicki Ratcliff and Tina Kessler each served one. South Putnam was able to set up the spike and managed to make 16-22 spikes stay down for points. Janet Sutherlin led the South Putnam net game with five spikes as Tina Kessler and Karen Hutchison did the setting. Kessler was 17-17 and Hutchison 13-14 during the night’s setting. Turkey Run also won the JV contest, 15-7 and 15-5 Too little, too late The South Putnam tennis team lost 4-1 in the Crawfordsville sectional last Friday, but the doubles team of Chuck Sears and Mike Callecod won. Sears and Callecod won the first set 7-5, then hung on after gaining a 5-1 lead in the second to win 6-4. Top seeded singles player Mike Williams lost 6-1 and 6-0 and second seed Gary Porter was ousted 6-1 and 6-2. South Putnam did not have a third seed for the sectional and was forced to forfeit the position. The second seeded doubles squad of Greg and Matt Williams lost 6-0 and 6-2. Weinhoeft takes first Denise Weinhoeft won the IHSAA Girls cross country regional Saturday at Decature Central High School. Weinhoeft, who chose not to run on the boys cross country team this season as in the past, entered the meet representing South Putnam and finished the 3,000 meter race in 10:44 for first place.
