She will be an assistant to the dean of students and head resident adviser for the Women’s Quadrangle. The appointment of Dr. Joan Claar as dean of students was announced earlier. Five persons have been appointed to the department of economics and business including a husband and wife who are splitting a full-time post. DR. ANTHONY CATANESE has been appointed associate professor and Margaret E. Catanese will become an assistant professor. Dr. Catanese received the Ph D. in 1972 from Southern Illinois University and the M.B.A. and B.A. at Ohio University and the University of Dayton respectively. For the past seven years he has taught at Grand Valley State College in Michigan. Margaret Catanese holds the M.B.A. from Michigan State and the B.S. from the U. of Dayton. She was a public accountant in Grand Rapids last year and was an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State for two years. A 1971 Carleton College graduate, William J. Field has been appointed an instructor in economics. He holds the M.A. from the University of Michigan and last year was a lecturer at the U. of North Carolina-Asheville. Wachter has spent the last two years as a visiting instructor of economics at Wabash College. He is a 1973 B.S. graduate of Purdue, where he was an instructor in economics while working on the M S. degree. He has the rank of instructor and, like Field, is a candidate for the doctorate. Martha S. Avery is among four appointments to the School of Nursing. She holds the B.S. from Indiana University and the M.S. from the University of Colorado. She has been a clinical nurse specialist in pediatrics at Methodist Children’s Pavilion in Indiana since 1972. Melissa Reynolds Ganza is a 1973 DePauw graduate. She has been a staff nurse at Indiana University Hospital since 1977. Martha Kolacek attended the U. of Alabama and Northern Illinois University. She has practiced in Alabama and was an assistant instructor at Michael Reese Hospital Medical Center in Chicago. CAROL SPRINGER HOLDS her degree from lU-PUI. She was a military nurse in California and Germany and for three years has been on the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children staff in Indianapolis. She and Mennenga will hold the rank of assistant professor. RALPH E. KNUPP IS a candidate for the doctorate at Purdue University, where he has been a teaching assistant for three years. An instructor in communication arts and sciences, he earned the B.S. from Philadelphia College of Bible and the Th. M. from Dallas Theological Seminary. He was a minister for five years. Michael Moore has been appointed an admissions counselor. He 'is a 1978 graduate of Oberlin College. Last year he was a research associate at Lorain (Ohio) County Community College. Another Oberlin College graduate, Gerald R. Specht, will become reference librarian. Specht earned the M S. at the University of Illinois. He was administrative assistant five years at Oberlin public library. UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS graduate (B.S. and M.S.) Randy Keith Salman has been appointed instructor of woodwinds. He has formerly taught at Illinois, Fort Lewis (Colo.) College and last year was instructor of applied clarinet and saxophone at Indiana State University.
Present Mayor C. Clifford (Abie) Frazier, a Democrat elected in 1975, is not seeking a second term. The upcoming election also featured Mrs. Harlan as the city’s first-ever female mayoral candidate. The ladies, of course, now number two with Ms. Strain’s declaration. The deadline for independent candidates to file their petitions with the county clerk was 12 p.m. Wednesday. No others filed*

Cloverdaie board okays personnel
By AGNES KING Banner-Graphic Staff Writer CLOVERDALE - The Cloverdaie School Board met in special session Tuesday night at the Administration Building to make final approval of non-certified personnel for the 1979-80 school year. Supt. Charles Frazee recommended the hiring of Irene Williams for janitor in the elementary school and Wilbur Pickard for janitor in the high school. Other business before the board was the acceptance of a fleet contract for Harold Belcher for bus routes 10 and 11. Jerry Manion was also approved as driver of route 10. Belcher’s contract will replace the contract of Harold Anderson, who submitted his resignation at the last meeting. Branneman made a motion for approval of the fleet contract, which was seconded and carried.

The budget review meeting for the Cloverdaie School Board is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 30. The September meeting of the board was changed to Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m., due to a conflict of the regular meeting with the Labor Day holiday. IN FINAL BUSINESS, the board increased the spare bus rental fee from $5 to $lO. Also a change order for Schneider Electric was recommended and accepted. Following the regular meeting the board adjourned into executive session.

He tells friends, “Hey, I’ve got this new mouser.” When they ask what kind, he replies, “Yeah, It’s six-foot-long and two inches in diameter.” He says everyone tells him he can keep it because they don’t want it. Leo and his family - wife Marcia and three-year-old son Aragon - find themselves slowly becoming attached to Gus.

They tell me boas are either biters or non-biters and this one is apparently a non-biter or I wouldn’t had had it this long. It’s a harmless, unusual and interesting animal.” MARCIA SAYS SHE HAS now held parts of the snake and will touch it. Son Aragon says, “I like it, I’ve petted him but never held him.” But of course, his first reaction to the snake, according to Leo, was “Look at the big worm.”
