Doll house talk to highlight fair's Ladies DayAug.l By MICHELE FLINT Banner-Graphic Staff Writer Almost every little girl has at some time in her childhood ex pressed a wish for a doll house to play with and house her family of dolls. But little girls grow into women, sometimes never giving up their wish, still longing for a doll house to call her very own. Mrs. Patricia Meister of Crawfordsville is one of those women whose wish finally came true, although she was an adult at the time. Mrs. Meister will bring her doll house and tell about it as a highlight of Ladies’ Day at the Putnam County Fair. The annual event will take place on Wednesday, Aug.l and Mrs. Meister’s 2 p.m. presentation will be in accord with the theme. "Oh. You Beautiful Doll.” 1 THE HOUSE, MEASURING 40 inches tall with base measurements of 28 inches by 34 inches, is built on a sale of one inch to one foot. Mrs. Meister’s father, Robert Berry of Hillsboro, began the house using a pattern but soon threw it out when he found things on the plan he felt were wrong for the house he and his daughter had in mind. Mrs. Meister and her father and family have spent approximately 2' 2 years working on the house but they still firfti things they want to change or add on. “I like to get ‘ le whole family involved in it.” Mrs. Meister says. “I wanted something that could be handed down to my daughter,” Mrs. Meister adds. “Something nice enough to keep in the family.” Ladies’ Day visitors will quickly recognize that the house is worthy of an heirloom. The Victorian house is decorated in keeping with its style and is complete in its decorating down to the most minute details and viewers will appreciate the hours of work that went into its composition. The house is a true winner, taking first place at the State Fair last year. LADIES’ DAY WILL BEGIN with a tea party at 9:30 a.m. and coffeecake, tea breads, coffee and tea will be served to all those attending. This will be followed by a welcome from Putnam County Fair Board President Marvin Clifford and (he presentation of county fair and local dignitaries. At 10:40 a.m. a “Living Doll” style show, featuring children under the age of 9 will be presented. They will be modeling clothes made for them by their mother or other family members. Glennie Clodfelter will be presenting a comedy skit at 11:15a.m. A contest featuring paper dolls will close activities preceding the break for lunch at noon. Afternoon activities will begin with show and tell at 1 p.m. when participants from the audience will share their favorite doll or costume. A make-up makeover will then be done on stage at approximately 1:30 p.m. * AFTER THE PRESENTATION by Mrs. Meister, a comedy style show will be given at 2:30 p.m. Members of county extension clubs will model some of the “newest” styles you’ve ever seen. Ladies’ Day program will close with a presentation of awards and recognition of achievements at 3p.m.
