Delta Kappa Gamma attends initiation dinner

On Saturday evening. December 7, 39 members of Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma attended the annual initiation dinner at the DePauw Memorial Student Union Building, at which Mrs. Velma Wortman, president of Alpha Epsilon State, from Morristown, Ind. was the guest speaker. Proceeding the dinner Betty Bertram (Mrs. Louis) and Ann Robinson (Mrs. Jack L.) were admitted to active membership in the organization in a simple but impressive ceremony, conducted by the officers and the Ceremonies Committee. Mrs. Wortman’s topic was “And love came down at Christmas,” referring to the birth of Jesus. She named the types of love and spoke of spiritual love, as defined by Bishop Shean, as God’s love to us with our response being to all mankind. God’s love is such that one can see, and touch, and hear in all the world around us, and a love one should emutate. It is a gift we all should use. “If we accept

this gift” she challenged the group, "we should (1) not fill our lives with material things; but invest in the children in knowledge, culture, morality, etc.; (2) not make ourselves a world to ourselves; rather work on projects for others in the fields of education such as scholarships, fellowships, etc.; and (3) not be so overwhelmed by the mass of misery in the world today that we do not act.” A special treat was the ver\ appropriate harp and vocal music by two DePauw students. Susan Jayne Platt, a junior harp student of Mrs. Grubb’s, played “Rhapsodie” by Marcel Grandjany and “What Child Is This 7 ” an old English song “Gesu Bambino” by Pietro Yon was sung by Robin Gaston, a student of Mrs. White; accompanied by Miss Platt Oh the harp. Group singing of Christmas Carols completed the program. Committees responsible for the evening and decorations were: Mrs. Susanna Compton, president, and her officers;

Ceremonies: Mrs. Charlotte Peterson, Mrs. Dorothy Brown and Mrs. Esther Friend;' Music: arranged for by Mrs. Betty Aker and Miss Leah Curnutt: and Social: Miss Thelma Neier, Mrs. Nola Clifford, Miss Elizabeth Daggy, and .Mrs. Jacqueline McGaughey. Athen chapter Athen Chapter 97 Order of the Eastern Star will honor Pat Patton District Deputy of District Nine, Indiana Grand Chapter at a public reception Saturday evening, Dec. 14 in the Masonic Temple at Crawfordsville.
