Kiwanis vs. Elks Tonight
Kiwanis standout Dave Braden ended his Greencastle Babe Ruth League pitching career by firing a onehitter at Legion in the second game of the playoffs Tuesday night, and his teammates exploded for ten runs in the third inning to pave the way
for an 11-0 victory that sends them into the final against Elks tonight. Braden, who will be joining the South All-Star team for a state honors contest, in South Bend Saturday, allowed only a double to Shane Huber in his farewell
performance on the Babe Ruth mound. Kiwanis manager Herman Wallace, rather than saving Braden for the title game tonight, threw him in the expected easier match Tuesday so that he would be wellrested for the all-star game.
Greencastle All-Stars Defeat Sullivan LL’ers
All the 15 year old hurler needed was the single run his teammates got for him in the first inning, but they finished with eight hits, while taking advantage of five Legion errors to give him a cruising victory. ■ Sherm McKee singled and tripled for the winners, Tom Norton singled and doubled,
Mitchell singled twice, Jeff Mager doubled, and York singled. Championship playoff game time tonight is 5:30 at the high school diamond.

The Greencastle Little League All-Stars defeated the Sullivan All-Stars 9-3 Monday night at the Legion field in Sullivan. Troy Judy was the winning pitcher for Greencastle, getting six batters to strike out while walking only two. Burton and Bonebreak split the mound duty for Sullivan, Burton pitching 3 2/3 innings and Bonebreak hurling the final 2 1/3. Burton gave up all nine Greencastle runs, yielding
seven hits while walking three and striking out one. Bonebreak gave up one hit and walk while striking out one. Greencastle scored two runs in the first inning, six in the second, and one in the fourth. Brent Atwell led Greencastle with three hits, while Jimmy Black, Greg Nicholson, Chris Hobson, Bart Spencer, and Troy Judy all hit safely for the Greencastle cause. Two of Sullivan’s runs came in the bottom of the
fourth inning, when Judy walked the first batter and the next hitter crashed one over the left-centerfield fence. Sullivan tried to start a rally in the sixth and last frame, but it was too late. After scoring one run, Bonebreak hit a fly ball to left fielder Brent Shuee, who doubled off the runner at first, ending the game. Greencastle faced Terre Haute National last night in the last game of the first round, with game time scheduled for seven o’clock.

Castle-Brackney’s Pulls Upset
Castle-Brackney’s pulled a major upset in Greencastle 12” Softball League action Tuesday night, knocking Torr’s-Walton out of the first place position they had occupied for one night with an 8-6 whipping. The last place Castle-
Brackney’s crew surprised Torr’s-Walton with five runs in the third inning to break the scoring ice in the game, and then hung on through a two run Torr’s-Walton seventh inning rally for the win. The big third for CastleBrackney's featured a run
Clovers Run Into No Run Trouble
Cloverdale’s summer high school baseball team has run on hard times lately, not being able to locate home plate with any baserunners their last three outings and not tasting victory in their last four. Defeats at the hands of
Van Buren (7-6) and Staunton (6-0) last week dropped the summer Clovers to the .500 mark on their season’s record, and a doubleheader dropping by Brazil Tuesday night shoved them down to 57, far away from the second place position they had ^ar-

lier occupied in the vacationtime loop. Back to back doubles by Brazil in the fifth inning of the first game Tuesday provided the only run of the contest, while the Red Devils scored five unearned runs in the nightcap to make the only dents in home plate. The Clovers outhit their guests for the twinbill, but just couldn’t reach paydirt. They opened their offensive showing in the first game by loading the bases, with nobody out. but a strikeout and a double play ended and began the succession of futile attempts to score. Coach Ken Williams was pleased with the caliber of ball his Clovers played Tues-
day, for he considers Brazil to be a rugged outfit. It’s just that he'd like to send a runner around from his third base coaching position once in a while. He’s getting the pitching from the likes of Ed Cummings, Kelly Bailey, and Jerry Chestnut, while Jerry Wallace and Randy Barron join the latter two in carrying the club’s leading sticks, which have outhit their overall opponents by 12 safeties this summer. Now he will try to get some runs against Shakamak Friday, seeing if the Clovers can break into the upper divi- - sion of the summer league for the home field advantage in the upcoming league tour-

Reuschel Changes Style; Cubs Trim Braves
ATLANTA (AP) — Righthander Rick Reuschel of the Chicago Cubs changed his style Tuesday night and trimmed the Atlanta Braves for the third time this year with a route-go-ing 7-2 decision. “I felt I was getting in a rut throwing the slider so much,” Reuschel said. “1 know I've got a good fast ball but 1 just wasn’t throwing it ... until tonight.” The hurley pitcher says he normally throws 60 per cent sliders in a game, but he used only 27 Tuesday night, 23 of them for strikes as the Braves managed to hit only four fly balls out of the infield. “I felt like 1 had to change.” he said. *lt seems like they’ve been hitting my slider lately, mainly because I tended to throw it almost any time I needed a strike." The Braves gave Reuschel trouble in only one inning - the second, when Atlanta got four singles, including run-scoring hits from Johnny Oates and pinch-hitter Norm Miller. All it did was trim the Cubs lead to 4-2. Reuschel retired 11 batters in a row during on stretch and gave up only three hits after the second. Billy Williams paced Chicago’s 13-hit attack with two singles, a double and two runs batted in, while Jose Cardenal
added a trio of singles. Williams said he had been attempted to hit the ball out of the park too often, acknowledging that the Cubs relied on his bat to produce runs. “J know I’ve got to hit for us so 1 sometimes get anxious at the plate and get a little too far out in front,” Williams said. “But if I can start spraying the ball around like tonight and get my stroke back they’ll (home runs) come.” Reuschel is now 3-0 against Atlanta this season and 5-1 lifetime His overall mark this year is 9-7. *It just seems like every time I play Atlanta our club gets a lot of runs,” Reuschel said. “1 know that one time the Braves beat me, they really beat me. Seems like it was about 18-2.” The Cubs jumped on Roric Harrison, 6-11, for four runs on six hits in the first two innings. Williams and Andy Thornton had RBI singles in the first, and one run crossed on an error and Williams doubled in another in the second. Steve Swisher doubled in the sixth and scored on Don Kessinger’s single to center and the Cubs added two more in the seventh when Darrell Earns missed a pickoff throw at third with the bases loaded, allowing two runners to score.

In the scheduled first game Tuesday night, Cloverdale IGA forfeited to Pizza Hut, exchanging fourth for fifth place with them in standings. The loss to Castle-Brack-ney’s marked the second time this season that Torr’s-Wal-ton followed crucial wins that vaulted them into first place with letdown performances against teams lower in the standings that left them in the second position. Tonight Torr’s-Walton will have a prime chance for revenge, as they meet CastleBrackney’s in the first game at Robe Ann Park, followed
