BRAHMS MANUSCRIPTS GEV'EN TO JLTLLIARD NEW YORK (AP) — Holographs of two songs by Johannes Brahms have been given to the Juilliard School by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kltngler <f Paradise Valley, Ariz. The songs are “Sehnsucht, Op. 49, No. 3" and “Im Garten am Seegestade, Op. 70 No. 1.” The latter is a presentation copy. The sheets are elaborately bordered with an intermingling of foliage and musical instruments. “Sehnsucht” is the composer’s working copy showing changes Brahms made when composing the piece and other alterations in different ink and pencil.
STEEL PLUMBINGWARE PROVES POPULAR MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — Government figures show that steel plumbingware proved very popular with residential builders and home owners in 1973. Plumbingware includes bathtubs, lavatories and kitchen sinks. Figures show that steel was used for 1,541,036 bathtubs in 1973 for a 48 per cent majority share of the market. Steel lavatories accounted for 1,804,490 units in 1973 for a market share of 28 per cent. And porcelain enamel and stainless steel sinks in the kitchen accounted for 4,850,099 units or 88 per cent of the market. Officials of Armco Steel Corp. here said they expect steel plumbingware to continue to grow in popularity in the future. — The National Geographic Society’s 38 cartographers sometimes spend more than 10,000 man-hours on a single map.
