Fatality —
State police identified the victims as David L. Correll, 44, his wife, Irene, 40, and the couple’s 14-year-old son,
Robert.
Investigators said the truck, driven by Dwaine E. Volk, 28, rural Logansport, was traveling north on the Indiana 37 bypass when it failed to stop at a signal light where the Correll auto was
crossing.
Two other passenger cars were also hit by the large semi-trailer rig. The driver of one, Evelyn L. Riggle, 40, rural Bloomfield, was listed in critical condition at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Four other persons received minor injuries in the
accident.

Board President Bob Rissler was elected president of the South Putnam School Board at its reorgani/ational meeting Monday night. Keith Jones, vicepresident, and Mortimer Thomas, secretary. Rissler replaces Gordon Whitman as president of the board. In other action taken, Roger Fleetwood, a former basketball standout at Brown County High School and Valdosta (Georgia! State College, was selected from three men interviewed to take over “B” basketball coaching reins at South Putnam High School. Fleetwood will also teach science courses at the school. Three teachers were also approved by the board; Henry Branscum from Hagerstown, who will teach Vocational Agriculture. Geoffrey Price, recently discharged from the U.S. Air Force, as choral music teacher, and Barbara Johnson was re-em-ployed at Belle Union Elementary after a leave of absence. A bid of 6% interest for a temporary loan from Central National Bank was accepted by the board for a loan to the school corporation not in excess of 5200,000 for operating expenses. She was secretary for the Athletic Department at North Putnam and was named outstanding business student her senior year. A shapely 5’4”. Miss Carter is employed by Lyon and Boyd Attorneys of Greencastle. She enjoys the work since “Everyday 1 learn something entirely different...learning different legal terms.” Living on a farm is something that Rhonda enjoys now because it is “private, peaceful and quiet.” Joining their family on the farm are a dog. Paul, a cat. Morris, cows and pigs. A lover of chocolate ice cream, this fair queen contestant hopes to become a stewardess within the next few years and travel abroad, possibly living in New York City or “someplace farther south than Greencastle.” With two years of French behind her. Rhonda hopes that this will help her in gaining a flying hostess position. Chevrolet station wagon being driven by Elvin R. Smiley, 59, 708 South Indiana Street, struck a parked 1970 Pontiac owned by Helen Werneke and Julia Deem. Greencastle firemen made a run to the scene and used 50 gallons of water to wash down gasoline spillage. They returned to the station at 10:05 p.m. after their 98th run of the year. Smiley was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicants. James Mackey, a passenger in the Smiley car was injured in the accident and taken to the Putnam County Hospital for treatment. Damage was estimated at 5700 to each automobile. In other police news, Frederick Buttery, 22. Roachdale. was lodged in the Putnam County jail at 4:21 this morning by Sheriff Bob Albright and booked for public intoxication. Fillmore 4-Her Achievement Winner Gary Wood. 17. Route 1. Fillmore, was named a state achievement winner Tuesday at the 56th annual Roundup at Purdue University. Thirtysix Indiana 4-H club members who have compiled outstanding records received the honor. Wood is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wood and completed his junior year at North Putnam Junior-Se-nior High School this spring. He has been a 4-H member eight years and a junior leader half of those years. Some 3.000 boys and girls, representing every county in the state, are attending the three-day 4-H event which opened Monday. The state achievement w inners were recognized af a general session in the Elliott Hall of Music. They will receive trips to the National 4H Congress Dec. 1-5 in Chicago or their records will be entered in national competition. Mrs. Elaine Vote. (4. 306 West Columbia Street, died Tuesday afternoon in the Putnam County Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Hendricks County on June 10. 1910, the daughter of Forest and Pans\ Greenlee Kelly. Mrs. Vote retired after 22 years from the Putnam County Welfare Department. She was a member of the Sherwood Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Nancy) Early. Greencastle, Mrs. William (Karen) Harshbarger, Allentown, Pennsylvania; two sons. David, Kokomo, Marion. Hilton Head. South Carolina: a sister, Mrs. Katheryn Tuttle. Richmond; a brother, Hubert Kelly, Plainfield, and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Greencastle in charge of Rev. Elgin Smith and with burial in the Brick Chapel Cemetery’. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 thi> evening. Fred A. Pease. 77, 521 Anderson St., died at the family residence after an extended illness. Pease was born in Terre Haute April J8. 1897, the son of Phillip and Minie Kasameyer Pease. He graduated from Glenn High School in 1912 and then attended business college. He was manager of the Indiana L.oan Company in Greencastle where he retired in 1950 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Lutheran Church and was a veteran of World War 1 He was a life member of the American Legion Post #58 and the World War Veterans Barracks#! 14. Pease was also a member of the Greencastle Masonic Lodge lemple #47 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife Stella; two daughters, Mrs. Wilmetta. Newgent, Illinois and Mrs. Arthur Roberts, Mi View, Calif.; and one sister Mrs. Elbert Whitehouse. ferre Haute. Four grandchildren also survive. Also surviving is one stepdaughter, Mrs. Donald Fond. Indianapolis. Funeral sen ices are set for Friday at 10 a.m. from the Hopkins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald Unger officiating. Burial will he in the Highlawn Cemetery, Terre Haute. While the filly is not overjoyed with having to share her mother, the three horses seem to he getting along together fairly well. “We were very grateful that Cherub took Nugget in because a baby horse requires much care and time in the,first few weeks after birth. When a foal is cared for by humans, it has to he hand-fed every two hours daily for weeks.” explained Mrs. Nichols.
The Nichols have 14 baby horses on their fann~10 tillies and lour colts. Eleven were foaled between May 1 and May 22. the unnamed lilly in* our short family history was the first to come and Nugget was foaled May 20. Although Nugget is still rather thin, the Nichols are letting him spend a few hours each day with Cherub while the filly is on her own eating grass. Soon Nugget will he brave enough to go out and try the green pasture himself. maA
Goldie Richardson Mrs. Goldie Marie Richardson, 80, of Cloverdale passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Donna Nursing Home in Cloverdale. Born in Cloverdale Township. Putnam County, on Sept. 15, 1893 she was the daughter of Addison Abrams and Zora Casida. On Sept. 5, 1942 she married Coil Richardson. He survives. Also surviving are a stepdaughter. Mrs. Lillian Hammons of Los Angeles: three stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Millgrove Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale in charge of the Rev. William J Evans. Burial will be at the Cloverdale Cemetery . Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm. today.

Ruth Ann VanDeventer. 79. Spencer resident died Monday at Bloomington Hospital She was horn in Green County, Jan. 4. 1895. with parents Ransom Rodenbeck and mother Ella Shelburn. She was the widow of Gray VanDeventer. A son Francis in Dallas. Tex., sisters Mary Herbert. Spencer; Pauline Smith. Clinton and two granddaughters survive. Services are set for 1 hursday at II at West and Son in Spencer. Burial will he at the Cloverdale Cemetery
