Fornaro, Director The school year is ending and so is one of RSVP’s favorite volunteer assignments-library assistants in Miller and Northeast Schools. Louise Knauer. Hollis Masten, Muriel Rockhill, Dorothy Stickle and Blanche Wilson worked with PTA volunteers at times when the libraries were serving large numbers of children. Another favored assignment phasing out for the summer months is reading for the Pre-School Story Hour at the Greencastle-Putnam County Library. Some of the more frequent readers from among the Senior Volunteers were Helen Jones, Gladys Silvey and Mary Lou Thomas. Opportunities to participate in a sewing group making layettes and comforters for the needy will continue through the summer. Church World Service Sewing will be meeting on the third Monday of the month in the First Presbyterian Church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteer Sewing Group, which meets on the second Tuesday, will recess for the summer months. New opportunities are available this summer, however. The Cooperative Extension Service needs assistant 4-H leaders and instructors in sewing (machine and hand), arts and crafts, food preparation and countless other everyday occupations that take no special training. Volunteers also might want to hold meetings in their homes. The 4-H groups meet once a week during the summer. The Red Cross in looking for registered nurses to teach program nursing (courses for teachers) and to teach home nursing. The volunteers must have Red Crois certification which can be earned at a one-day training session in June. SPECIAL TO BRIDGE PLAYERS-If you enjoy playing bridge, you are needed to make up a table at the home of a shut-in. Any person 60 years of age or older is eligible to be a Senior Volunteer. RSVP staff would like to talk with interested persons about the above volunteer opportunities and other available assignments. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program will arrange transportation for Senior Volunteers on request. Please call 653-3011 and find out how you can help your community.

During the North Putnam Junior-Senior High School Honors convocation on Friday, May 17, Terry Tippin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tippin of Route 1, Bainbridge, receives a trophy for being most outstanding senior athlete from Mr. James Sharp, athlete director. Tippin participated in football, basketball and track throughout his high school years and earned eleven out of twelve possible varsity letters. During the honor ceremony, Tippin was also named most valuable player in football, basketball and track.

Beard, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wooddall Beard of Route 6. Martinsville. Charles Coffman, son of Mrs. Fanchon Coffman of Cunot. has been chosen from the Muncie Unit of the Indiana National Guard to attend the Ft. Benning. Ga’s. Officer I raining School. He completed his schooling the first of April and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and is attending Officer's Infantry Training at Ft. Benning. The 1966 graduate of Cloverdale High School is married and has one child. He will be attending school at Indiana University to complete his senior year in journalism. Candace Anne Smith of613 Anderson Street in Greencastle has been named to the Dean’s List at Ohio Wesleyan University. Miss Smith, a senior, is one of 329 students on the current Dean’s List, recognizing outstanding academic achievemeiu. For the first time, Ohio Wesleyan is now issuing the Dean’s list once a year and basing selection only on cumuative grade averages. In the past, lists were issued each term and included grade averages for that term. The Dean's List contains the names of freshmen and sophomores who have a cumulative average of 3.30, juniors with an average of 3.35 and seniors with an average of 3.40.

Indy Flight Banquet Hosts Winningest 500 Mechanic
The winningest chief mechanic in championship auto racing, George Bignotti, has been named to be the guest speaker at the Air Force’s Indiana 500 Memorial Flight Banquet in Indianapolis May 24. As the mechanical wizard of the 1974 STP Racing Team, Bignotti will be doing the wrench-work for last year’s Indy 500 winner, Gordon Johncock. The other STP Team drivers are Wally Dallenback and Steve Krisiloff. The Indiana 500 Memorial Flight is a group of 100 young Hoosiers, 15 of whom are from the Putnam County area, who will be entering the Air Force as part of the Indianapolis 500 Memorial Service on May 25, just prior to the ‘500’ Festival. The hundred young men will take their training together at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Tex. The members of the flight and their parents will hear Mr. Bignotti speak about his years in championship auto racing which began in 1956 after a stint with Freddy Agabashigan’s midget racers. George Bignotti-tuned cars have won the Indy in 1961 and 1964 with A.J. Foyt driving, in 1966 piloted by World Champion Graham Hill, in 1970 and 1971 with A1 Unser, and last year with Gordon Johncock in an STP Eagle. He has ught home winner’s cu F . trom the Ontario 500 in 1971 and 1973 and the Pocono 500 in 1972, giving him more “500” mile race wins than any other chief mechanic in the history of the U.S. Auto Club. He has a career total of 66 championship car wins and an unprecedented seven national championships. Members of the Indiana 500 Memorial Flight will be
