Eagle Track Team Records Perfect Week
South Putnam’s track team chalked up its third and fourth wins in as many days Wednesday and Thursday, as the Eagles took a pair of dual meets from Cascade and Rockville, 65-62 and 7749. The dual meet wins go with the pair of triangular victories Monday and Tuesday to give coach Tom Freije’s forces a perfect week. “We were a little tired tonight, running our fourth meet in a row,” said Freije after the Rockville meet. “We mixed things up some; gave some of the other boys a shot at running the events. Again it was a team effort that won for us.” The Eagles now get a chance to rest until Monday, when they challenge North
Putnam’s varsity and junior high teams. ICC Race Up For Grabs
As predicted, the Indiana Collegiate Conference baseball race is up for grabs with three squads currently tied for the top rung. Butler, Valparaiso and Evansville are all 5-1 with 50% of the conference race already history. That will change, however, this weekend when Valparaiso and Evansville clash in Evansville. The Aces, winners of 10 of their last 14 games and streaking to four straight ICC wins, own double decisions over Wabash and Indiana Central and a split with St. Joseph’s. DePauw knocked Butler out of the undefeated ranks of the conference with a 9-6 victory in Greencastle Wednesday. The Bulldogs took the opener 4-1 behind the six-hit pitching of Steve Clayton. Butler accounted for all of its runs in the second game on a grand slam home run by Mike Hawkins and then back to back roundtrippers by Harry Muta and MacDonald. DePauw won the battle finally w ith a five-hit, five runsixth inning. Besides the crucial Evans-ville-Valpo twinbill today, 15 Indiana Central will be at 2-

Clovers Fall Short
“We had a ball game until the sixth inning,” said Cloverdale baseball coach Ken Williams about his team’s 8-3 loss at Cascade Thursday afternoon, but it was in that sixth that the Cadets put together four runs to bust open the tight battle and set the final
slate.
The Clovers had jumped to a one run advantage in the first frame without benefit of a hit when sophomore shortstop Rick Anderson scrambled to third and proceeded to steal home. After Cascade had brought home two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a booming roundtripper by center fielder Weatherman, Kelly Bailey doubled home Jerry Chestnut, who had also doubled, to tie the contest for the Clovers in the third. Cascade once again came up with a pair of runs to Bowling P.R. Mallory

answer, but Dale Smith tripled to set up the run that brought the Clovers within one in the fourth. Smith dislocated his finger diving back into the third on a pickoff attempt, becoming the second Clover casualty within a week, joining Mark Jordan, who was brought down with mononucleosis, on the sidelines. The loss brings the Clovers’ record to 2-5 as they go into today’s doubleheader at Southmont.

Cub Girl Netters Still Undefeated
The Greencastle girls tennis team continued on their winning ways this week with a pair of wins over Terre Haute North and Southmont, running their season record to 4-0. Wednesday the Cub girls entertained North to the tune of a 7-2 beating, while Thursday they proved to be no better hostesses in dropping the Mountie girls, 6-3. Coach Ann Lawver’s netters will again hit McAnally’s courts Monday afternoon at 4:15, when they meet Crawfordsville. Wednesday afternoon they travel to Indianapolis to tangle with Warren Central High School.

Homers Abound As Cubs Are Downed
Three home runs blasted out of Greencastle’s baseball field Thursday afternoon, but when the barrage ended the Cubs stood on the short end of 10-6 score in a conference game with Brazil. John Alice got the Cubs off on the right foot in the first inning with a two run roundtripper, his second homer of the season, but Red Devils Yocom and Broady each responded with four baggers in the midst of the 11 hit Brazil attack that pinned Rick Parrish with the loss. Phil Fisher added a triple and Stacy Spencer a double in the Cubs’ second loss
against three wins on the spring. Coach Jim Peck’s outfit will be home again against Terre Haute Friday.
