Note the vagueness of Kotulak’s claim that a cancer patient's “life probably eould have been saved" if she hadn't been treated via vitamins and diet. See how many medics will crawfish if you challenge them to wager $10,000 on their own cure of cancer! CASE Z-593: Ronald Kotulak is a talented science editor of the Chicago Tribune But even he succumbs to the fallacy of 'Kowtowing to Supposed Kings." For he often seems to accept the statement ol physicians at face value, without using his own analytical brain to refute them Kotulak recently ran a front page Tribune attack on quacks in cancer treatment, alleging that advocates of special diets and even Dr. Ivy's Carcalon (formerly named Krebiozen). are what cause the high cancer death rate. But bluntly ask your local physicians why 1.000 Americans die EVERY DAY. even in spite of our best hospital surgery. X-ray and cobalt treatments! That means almost 365.000 are killed every year in the U. S. A. by cancer, even after they have often squandered $10,000 to $25,000 on lutile hospital surgery. Xray and cobalt. As a member of the American Medical Association myself. I have great respect for scientific medicine. But I am not an abject slave who kowtows to pontitieation by either the A. M. A. or other scientists unless their data gibe with logic! "Oh. the reason so many die of cancer." is the stock A. M A reply, "is that patients don t come to us soon enough."

There is some logic to that. But many patients who do get regular medical checkups and have their first signs of cancer quickly diagnosed, then die DESPITE Ol'K BEST H0SP IT A L M E D 1 C A L THERAPY. So it affronts my scientific training to see the A. M A. attack chiropractors and dieticians as it the latter were nincompoops! And it further irritates me to see the glib manner in w hich newspaper columnists pander to the M. D by routinely urging that all health problem eases "Consult your physician at once!' Physicians are not Solomons, even in their ow n realm And thousands ol them are w hat we call "hook doc-

tors'' or braintrusters, who don't use the simple common sense methods before urging costly surgery. Moreover, the A. M. A., plus the Food and Drug Administration, have slandered and libeled the greatest living medical scientist in the world, namely. Dr. Andrew C. Ivy. The recent Science Digest, which counted the references in 2.000 scientific journals for 5 years, found that Dr. Ivy ranked FIRST

among all living men of science. Yet Kotulak lists Dr. Ivy s use of the Carcalon treatment as mere quackery! But the State Legislature of Illinois vindicated Dr. Ivy thereon and slapped the w rists of the A. M. A. And in the famous 9month Chicago trial. Dr Ivy was fully vindicated and the FDA completely humiliated. For the FDA had accused Dr. Ivy of "deceit and fraud" in his use of horse blood extract to replenish the cancer victim's reduced immunity. But on the w itness stand, when sworn to tell the truth, the EDA doctors then lamely admitted that they had written false letters on their M. D. stationery actually telling bald-faced lies against Carcalon. Now, to avoid being indicted for perjury, they confessed their lies, saying they had not even penned those letters but the EDA had written them, asking the medics to sign them! Yet the EDA had the gall to accuse Dr. Ivy of "deceit and quackery." Furthermore, the A. M. A. charge that Carcalon was nothing but mineral oil, has long been disproved by leading scientists, yet Kotulak continuestoparrotthat A. M. A. falsehood.

Police Stage Drug Raid In Terre Haute TERRE HAUTE£ lnd.(APl— Police staged a massive drug raid early today as they sought to serve warrants naming 131 persons. An early report from police listed 74 arrests. Officials said 20 were on the Indiana State University campus. Charges included sale and possession of dangerous drugs and visiting a common nuisance. About 60 policemen conducted the raids, climaxing a one-year investigation. Vigo Circuit Court issued warrants for 81 arrests. charging 80 with sale of drugs. The others accused were named in City Court warrants. Bonds ranging from 5500 to $10,000 were set as those arrested were booked and taken to jail. Police Chief James Swift and Prosecutor Ralph Berry said it was the most comprehensive investigation in the city’s history. Forty-eight juveniles have been arrested at area schools in the last three weeks for drug violations. In February 1973 42 persons were arrested in a drug raid.

1230 2-6 Three On A March Plan Set To Combat Pollution INDIANAPOLIS (AP>—A plan to combat pollution in Indianapolis and Marion County has been forged by city, state and federal authorities after months of negotiations. The plan now calls for testing of vehicle emissions and recovery of gasoline fumes from underground tanks at service stations. Much of the proposal was ironed by aides to Mayor Richard G. Lugar and representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA originally proposed an eight-point plan, including a $2 a day tax for autos parking in commercial parking lots and garages. The other six points have been discarded. Under the new agreement, the auto emission test would be given with the state’s vehicle safety inspection starting July 1, 1975. Stanley Stern, an aide to the mayor, said all autos and pickup trucks in the county would be tested and any not passing probably could be brought into compliance with a simple tuneup. The fume recovery devices to take vapors out of service station tanks as they are filled with gasoline would have to be installed by March I, 1976. This final plan will be printed soon in the Federal Register and has been signed by Russell Train, EPA administrator. The EPA also will continue to monitor hydrocarbons in the air. If the level is lower than in previous tests, one of the two points may be dropped. However, Stern said if the EPA uses summer hydrocarbon readings as a reason for making the agreed plan more strict, the city would take the agency to court. Otherwise, the city “can live with the plarf,” he said.
