Jack Galloway Ties Clover Track Mark
Jack Galloway tied a Cloverdale track team record for the two mile run Thursday, but the Clovers were able to manage no better than a third place finish in a surprise triangular meet. The junior distance man ran the two miles in 10:13, equalling the time set by Herschel Manson in 1972 at the Plainfield track. His coach, Jim Coon, said later that Galloway should break the mark before the season ends. Galloway’s first place finish was one of only three collected by the Clovers, the other two copped by Jim Gerlach in the discus and high jump. Most of the other firsts went to West Vigo, with whom the meet was originally scheduled as a dual affair. However, when the Vikings pulled up at the Clovers’ track, Van Buren’s Blue Devils pulled up with them, setting up the triangular clash. West Vigo copped team honors with 84'/$ points, while Van Buren nipped Cloverdale for second with 37*/$ markers. The Clovers finished with 37. Coon was not overally disappointed at his forces’ showing, for he considered West
Vigo to be one of the strongest teams the Clovers would face all season. In addition, Coon pointed out that, almost to a man, his kids improved their time or distance for the events in which they competed, making him optimistic about
Snow Stops DePouw Saturday’s shots -of snow and cold pretty well wiped out DePauw’s scheduled sports contests, which consisted of a baseball game against Earlham, a track meet against Rose-Hulman, and a tennis match with Principia. Tuesday, however, the Tiger baseballers will try to get one in when they travel to Rose-Hulman for a single contest. Wednesday’s action will witness both the Tiger netters and tracksters hosting Butler at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively, while the golf squad hits the road to Muncie and a link affair with Ball State.

Hoosier Swimmers Fall!
LONG BEACH Calif. (AP)— The University of Southern California Trojans, with three key victories, have ended six years of domination by the Hoosiers of the National Collegiate Athletic Association swimming championships. Southern Cal held off the potent Indiana swimming team, which staged a final-session rally late Saturday night, and the Trojans won the event by a single point. John Naber, a Southern Cal freshman from Santa Clara, Calif., capped the Trojans’ performance by winning the 200yard backstroke in an American record time of 1 minute 48.95 seconds. Earlier, Jack Tingley of Southern Cal won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:29.29 in the Belmont Plaza pool and teammate Joe Bottom won the 100 freestyle in 45.067, giving the Trojans a 30-point leadover the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers tried to come back, with two men scoring in each of the first three events Saturday night. Then the Indiana 400-yard freestyle relay team won the meet’s last event with another American record
performance. Southern Cal’s relay squad held on to finish second for enough points to defeat Indiana 339-338. Tennessee was third with 250 points, followed by Washington with 214 and UCLA with 190. Indiana's relay team—Mel Nash, Tom Hickcox, Jim Montgomery, and John Murphy— was timed in 3:00.35 to break the American mark of 3:00.36 set by Tennessee. Southern Cal was right behind in 3:01.07. Indiana scored 32 points for first in the relay. The Trojans gained 26 crucial points for second and clinched the meet, despite being outscored in the final session by 28 points. Indiana had won six titles in succession but trailed Southern Cal 224-195 going into Saturday’s events. John Kinsella of Indiana, the three-time defending champion in the 1,650 freestyle, ended a disappointing season by swimming only sixth as Tingley won. Tennessee’s John Trembley was upset in the 100 freestyle by Bottom, a freshman who was fourth at the halfway mark and had to come from behind to catch Trembley. Another American record

Pacers Drop Playoff Opener
INDIANAPOLIS! AP)-San Antonio Spurs Coach Tom Nissalke is happy with a victory at Indiana, when he can get one, but the one he wants is Monday night. The Spurs hung on for a 113109 decision over the Pacers Saturday night in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series in the American Basketball Association’s Western Division semifinals. The series resumes Monday night. “If we can win the game Monday night, I feel we might be able to go back to San Antonio and wrap it up in four games,” Nissalke said. “That would give us the momentum we need." The Pacers, normally tough in the playoffs—especially the semifinals, find themselves in a must-win situation for the second game. “We can’t afford to lose another one here at home,” Pacers Coach Bobby Leonard said. “We have to play a lot harder than we have been. “The playoffs are going to be tougher this year for us because the competition is a lot tougher than past years." Hot shooting kept the Spurs on top in the opener, despite some strategic use of the threepoint goal by Indiana. High scorer Rich Jones led the field, canning 14 of 18 attempts as San Antonio hit nearly 55 per cent of its shots in the game. All of the Spurs’ 46 field goal were two-pointers, but Indiana managed to remain in the game with seven three-pointers, four by Billy Keller to make things interesting in the fourth quarter. Indiana shot 47 per cent in the game, but hit only 12 of 38 attempts in the first half for 36 per cent.

Tiger - Eagle Swimmers Split
Greencastle’s junior high school girl’s swim team rolled on to another lopsided win Thursday at the South Putnam pool, but the Eagle boys turned back the visitors, to salvage a split for the day. The Tiger girls, led by Linda Humphrey’s pair of wins, chalked up a 109-60 tally, while South Putnam’s Girton fought to balance the slate with two wins of her own. More second and third place finishes spelled the difference for the Eagle boy’s triumph, as the Tigers took six of eleven firsts, led by John Null and David Hedrick with two apiece, but only two seconds and four thirds. Eagle Briones matched Null and Hedrick with a pair of firsts in his team's 95-76 victory. The Tigers will host the Eagles for a return match at McAnally Center tomorrow afternoon. Boys 100 Yd. Dolphins Jump
MIAMI (AP) - Miami Dolphin stars Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick and Paul Warfield signed a multi-million dollar contract Sunday with the Toronto Northmen of the new World Football League, Miami television station WPLG reported. The station said the trio signed a package deal for SI
million each for three years. WPLG quoted Kiick's brother, Rick, as saying the Dolphin running back told him the trio had signed with Toronto after a week of negotiations. Csonka, Kiick and Warfield were still in Canada and unavailable for comment but were ex-
pected to hold a Sunday afternoon news conference. A Dolphin spokesman declined comment. The contract would not take effect until the 1975 season because the three Dolphins must play out a one-year option required by the National Football League.
