Lawyers Plan To Challenge Recommendation
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP> - Lawyers for former Vice President Spiro T. Agnew plan to challenge before the state Court of Appeals a recommendation that Agnew be barred from practicing law in Maryland. A disbarment recommendation was made Monday by a special three-judge panel which
heard arguments in December in a disciplinary action brought by the Maryland Bar Association. The disciplinary action was initiated after Agnew pleaded no contest to a federal income tax evasion charge and resigned the vice presidency Oct. 10. Leon H. A. Pierson, one of
Agnew’s two lawyers, said he would ask for a hearing before the Court of Appeals, which will have a final say on whether Agnew is disbarred. A court spokesman said a hearing could come as early as late February or early March. Maryland procedures for handling disbarment proceedings
were revised about three years ago, and not enough cases have gone to the court to establish a pattern which would indicate what would happen in the Agnew case. Court officials say, however, that the court has accepted the recommendations of the threejudge hearing panels more of-
ten than it has rejected or revised them. Three options are open to the Court of Appeals. The judges could disbar Agnew as suggested, suspend him for a set period of time or simply reprimand him. A reprimand is considered
unlikely, however, since even Agnew suggested at the origi-
nal hearing that suspension would be a suitable penalty be-
cause of his no-contest plea to the tax charge.

We all know that garlic is a seasoning used on meats, in salads, and various other foods. But, what you probably didn't know, was that the slaves who built the Egyptian pyramids lived on garlic as a food rather than a seasoning! Garlic was also the principal seasoning of the Chinese. Unlike the Egyptians or the Chinese, the people of India hated garlic. In fact, it was forbidden in m?ny places. Unbelievably, the Greeks and Romans disliked garlic too! The Roman senate even passed a law which forbade citizens to enter the sacred temple of the goddess Cybele after eating garlic. However, the nobles fed garlic to their slaves thinking it made them strong. They also gave it to their soldiers for courage. During the Middle Ages, the poor put bits of garlic into honey as a remedy for coughs and colds. There are other wives' tales too ... holding a half of a clove of garlic against yout gum is a cure for tooth aches. Also, garlic pinned over a doorway will ward off the evil eye! In the 14th Century, peasants had to use garlic. It was the only way they could tolerate eating the poor meats. Now we don't suggest your pinning garlic over your doorway, because you'll probably ward off more than just the evil eye; but we do suggest your coming to ... Marsh ... and trying our savory seasonings.
