NEW YORK (AP> — Speculation that a second “Fight of the C e n t u r y ’ ’ between heavyweights Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali would be an-
nounced soon was heightened Tuesday when Madison Square Garden called a press conference for noon, EDT, Thursday. The Garden, site of the

Coming in second in an eight-team cross country meet wasn’t so bad after all for DePauw University Coach Bob Harvey, left. Harvey’s daughter Margo, arm raised triumphantly, is manager of the winning Valparaiso University team coached by Terry Shy who is pleasantly
surprised that it’s all in the family. Margo is a student at Valparaiso and has been manager of the team for two years. The Crusaders beat seven other teams to take the meet championship at DePauw Saturday. The Tigers play host to the GLCA meet at 11 a.m., Windy Hill Country Club.

Yogi Needs A Contract
NEW YORK (AP) — Now that he has a key to the city, the only thing Yogi Berra needs is a contract to manage a baseball team for next season. The logical team would seem to be the New York Mets, the club Yogi has piloted to the National League East Division title. But they haven’t asked him back yet. That, of course, could be meaningless. The Mets traditionally make their managerial decisions after the season. On the other hand, it could be ominous. The last time Yogi 1 managed a club that finished first, it was the New York Yankees in 1964. Instead of getting a new contract, he got fired. , Will history repeat itself 1 • “1 don’t know yet." said Berra. allowing himself a mischievious grin. “1 don’t think | so." . In mid-summer, when the Mets were in last place 12 games back and five teams • away from the top. there was .considerable sniping at the manager. Donald Grant, the club's chairman of the board, described Berra's position as secure at that time, but added a cryptic afterthought, saying that it depended on fan opinion. I Colts Obtoin Ginn . BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Colts of the National Football League obtained Hubert Ginn from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for running back Don Nottingham and a sixth-round draft choice. Royals Promote "Buzzy” Keller KANSAS CITY (AP) — The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday the promotion of Carlton “Buzzy" Keller to director of their baseball academy at Sarasota, Fla. Keller, 40, was a staff member of the school when it opened in 1970. He has been manager of the academy’s team in the rookie Gulf Coast League for three seasons and has doubled for the last 13 months as director of player development and instruction. The Royals also announced that 27-year-old Branch Rickey III grandson of the baseball immortal, was promoted to assistant director of the academy.
At that time. Yogi’s rating with the customers wasn't very high. There were times during the season that even Berra doubted the team’s ability to win the title. Injuries piled up. and for awhile, it seemed that Berra never would have a totally healthy club. When he finally did. it thundered through September at a sizzling 21-8 pace
to win the title. Ironically, the Mets’ won-lost record of 82-79 is the worst they have posted in any year since they won the division, playoff and World Series in 1969. There is one more irony. If the Mets don't invite Berra back, he could still wind up in Shea Stadium anyway. After all, the Yankees will be spending the next two seasons there and they’re looking for a manager.
Tolan Files Grievance
CINCINNATI Ohio (AP) Bobby Tolan, suspended outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, will file a grievance soon, according to Marvin Miller of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Miller said Tolan’s grievance against his suspension will charge the Reds did not have just cause to suspend the outfielder. Miller contends Tolan was being disciplined for growing a mustache. The Reds said they were suspending Tolan for his “divine" attitude and refusal to take part in team practice and batting practice. ‘‘Two facts should be known,” said Miller. “One was
that no one ever talked to him about the question of batting practice. The other is that directly preceding his suspension he had a meeting with Manager Sparky Anderson and during that meeting not one word was said except about “his mustache." Miller said Tolan, who was paid during his suspension, will seek appropriate redress for injury to his career and reputation. The Reds suspended Tolan last Thursday for the final three games of the regular season and announced Monday that he would not play in any post-season games.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate considers legislation today designed to reform U.S. amateur sports and eliminate the rivalry between the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Amateur Athletic Union in international competition. The measure is expected to pass even though there has been a concentrated lobbying effort against it by officials of established sports groups. Many athletes, including some who have participated in the Olympics, favor the proposal. After a vote by the full Senate, the measure would go to the House Education and Labor Committee, where a similar bill is pending. The Senate Commerce Committee approved an omnibus bill on July 25 that would establish an independent board to charter and oversee all governing bodies for U.S. amateur
sports, restructure existing bodies, develop community facilities and promote health and safety in athletics. Entitled the Amateur Athletic Act of 1973, the Senate bill would: — Put an end to the on-going power feud between the NCAA and the AAU by eliminating their authority to prevent athletes from participating in individual events. —Provide minimum federal involvement in amateur sports to the extent needed to protect individual athletes from overbearing sports organizations. Commission a study for the purpose of revitalizing the U.S. Olympic Committee and its method of operation. —Create a sports development program designed to enable more people to become actively involved in amateur sports.
March 8, 1971 match when Frazier knocked Ali down on the way to a 15-round decision and the title, has been in intensive negotiation to acquire the bout. All that appeared lacking last week was adequate confirmation that the fighters would not receive as severe a tax bite as they had suffered in 1971. When the two battled in 1971, they were taxed not only on income made in New York State but also on money from closed circuit broadcasts of the event and other finances. The tax bite made both fighters hesitant
about returning to New York for the bout. But Tuesday’s announcement, along with a report t’..at the date of the bout would be Feb. 4, 1974, added to conjecture that the fight would be held in the Garden. Both have lost since the historic match, which reportedly grossed S20 million and paid each boxer a $2.5 million purse. Frazier lost his championship to George Foreman in Jamaica on Jan. 22 of this year. Ali had his jaw broken while dropping a 12-round decision to Ken Norton on March 31.
Cor 67 Chases A Suspect, Finds An Off-Duty Policeman
INDIANAPOLIS! A P)—“This is Car 67," the voice crackled over the Indianapolis Police Department radio. “1 am chasing a man with a gun...Will need assistance." Car 67 happens to be an orange El Dorado Cadillac, equipped with red light, siren and two-way police radio. The owner is Roger Brown, 6-foot-5 All-Star forward with the American Basketball Association champion Indiana Pacers.
Brown, who also is a citycounty councilman, Marion County deputy coroner and special deputy, explained over the radio he was pursuing a car containing a man he had seen come out of a store with a gun stuck in his belt. Other police units responded to Brown’s urgent call and, after a short pursuit, pulled the suspect over to the curb. They examined his identification and found he was an off-duty policeman.
